Zico stars after bug bite scare
RYAN-ZICO Black's big international event got off to a slow personal start after he suffered an insect bite on the eve of the first game.
But he hit the ground running after recovering from his bug bite.
Lancaster City's former Morecambe striker is representing Guernsey in the Island Games, an Olympic-style event for 24 islands taking place in the Shetland Isles including Bermuda, Greenland, Jersey, the Isle of Man, Sark, Rhodes and Gotland.
But Black, taking part on the football competition, missed the opening match against Orkney after suffering the bite on Saturday.
He did return for Monday's second group B game against the Western Isles - and starred, scoring both goals in the 2-1 win.
Black struck on the stroke of half-time to level the match after the Western Isles had taken an early lead - but earned a yellow card for his celebration.
And he got the second half off to a flyer with his and Guernsey's second goal four minutes after the re-start.
Black and his colleagues are back in action today (Wednesday) when they face Greenland and their last group game is on Thursday against Ynys Mon (Anglesey).
One more win will see Guernsey into the semi-finals, with the final taking place on Saturday.
