I WRITE in response to the letter (LET, July 11) regarding smoke detectors saving lives. I would like to thank Mrs Mayor for writing this letter urging people to buy smoke detectors for their homes.
I would like to take the opportunity to point out that Lancashire Fire and Rescue service offer a free home fire safety check and supply free smoke detectors to all residents of Lancashire who require them.
All people have to do to receive this invaluable service is to contact their nearest fire station or phone the free phone number, 0800 169 1125 and an appointment will be made to fit the detector and give free advice on home fire safety.
Everyone should be able to sleep safely at night especially when it doesn't even cost you the price of a phone call.I, like Mrs Mayor, would urge anyone who doesn't have a detector fitted to take advantage of this free service.
