FIFTEEN year old Leigh Harrier Dionne Allen of Westleigh High School had an outstanding week on the fells and on the track, winning the English U16 girls fell running championships at Settle.

She also took bronze while representing Greater Manchester in the Inter-Girls 3000m final at the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Birmingham's Alexandra Stadium.

The Greater Manchester champion ran a terrific race on a scorching hot day, winning bronze in what is recognised as the toughest championships for u/18 athletes to qualify for. Dionne recorded a personal best time 10.15.5sec.

Lauren Howarth, a fifteen year old Deanery pupil, has also been in top form. She represented Greater Manchester in the Intermediate Girls 1500m and ran a super race finishing in second place in a national grade 1 standard time of 4.38.08sec to smash the club record.

In the senior boys 3000m, Thomas Boardman (Winstanley) found the heat difficult to contend with and ran well outside his club record of 8.29.3sec to finish in 8th place with a time of 8.53.2sec.

On the road Danielle Allen continued to dominate the Junior Ladies race in the Chorley 4 mile series with her third win, running a time of 26.25sec for the two lap 4 mile race.
