Givet returns after bust-up

Gael Givet Gael Givet

GAEL Givet is in the Blackburn Rovers squad for this evening’s Championship trip to Nottingham Forest after holding clear the air talks earlier this week.

The Frenchman was substituted at half-time on Saturday after not ‘being in the right frame of mind’ to continue but, after talks with the players and boss Eric Black, is expected to start at the City Ground.

Black, in temporary charge, declined not to comment in detail on Saturday’s events, with Givet understood to have had an on-field bust-up with a couple of players.

He admitted the Frenchman’s actions were wrong but insisted the incident was now history.

He said: “Gael is absolutely fine. I have spoken to him, he came to see me, we have spoken about what happened and I am happy with how it has been resolved.

“He has spoken to the players and we will move forward. It is dealt with and we move on. It was an internal personal thing for him, which I fully respect. He explained it to me, I am happy with the explanation he has given me and it is history.

“Gael will be the first to say he did something he should have not have done, he is fully aware of that.

“However he is an emotional individual, wants to win games, plays with his heart on his sleeve, he has done exceptionally well for the team.”

Relieved he has sorted things out, I wish the rest of the defence played with the same passion. Think I saw him having a go at his partner in crime Dann when the penalty was conceded!

I believe that it was Orr (not Dann) that bore the brunt of Givet's anger at some rubbish defending before half-time. I wonder if Orr will play tonight after this? Hope not. Rovers to win 3-0.

Gael should have 'floored' Orr and Dann and also given the lazy Murphy an ear full none of them are up to the mark - Gael plays with passion unlike the rest of the defence!!

Sorry but who does Givet thing he is? I tell you what he's a prima dona on a lot of money to play football. He needs to grow up and consider how fortunate he is.

If he can't do that then "goodbye" that's what Eric Black should be telling him

About time someone gave some of the players a rollicking, they are well paid professionals for goodness sake,go and do the business for ninety minutes for the fans it's not much to ask is it

Givet plays 100% and has a passionate commitment and loyalty, just what we need and if he's been rollicking Dann, who has been a let down, Orr, who sucked up to Kean and Murphy who has taken a big money pay cheque to be back in his beloved home region but hasn't the legs and has been idling round in midfield -then GOOD. Perhaps he can lay into Etu, too for good measure.

Seems like Black has handled this professionally in the best interests of the Club.

I would like to see him make Givet captain and tell Murphy to shape up or settle for a place on the bench.

Can't blame Gael for blowing his top after his fellow defender's poor efforts; he's French and he's passionate about the game. It just shows the defensive coach isn't doing his job properly. Lack of a coach/leader/organis
er/planner leads to individuals arguing with each other on the field of play. This is a fundamental of all team sports.

I said in a comment after the Charlton match that we are carrying 3 players. In my opinion the three you have mentioned are the culprits. I honestly don't think Orr is anywhere near good enough for this level, Dann is getting caught out too much and Murphy has gone way past his sell by date.

Not too sure what options we have at centre half or full back, but we need to get the defence sorted out and quick.

Hendry was hired to sort out the defence but it seems it's being left to one of the players, come on Hendry you are getting paid to sort this out and if certain players are not performing put someone in who will, regardless of who they are.

To the 2 ar5eholes (probably work for the local council where behaving yourself is more important than actually being any good at your job!) who said Givet wants to grow up and do what he's told:-
What do you want , a team full of spineless yes-men who take substandard play as the norm and are carry on quietly or somebody who gives a fuc.k and wants the same commitment as he gives?
Probably was aimed at Orr or Dann, a right pair of wasters , only here for the money, cos the pair of em aren't good enough. Add to that, Lowe, Murphy and Dunn and you have 5 players (3 signed by k**n, 1 past it and 1 never good enough) who never say boo to a goose.
I'd be glad to see the back of the lot of em apart from Dunny, he deserves a role at the club if he wants it, being a local lad and a supporter too.
Don't come on here slagging Givet or Peds , both good servants to the club, Yes they get well paid but they've both pulled us out of the 5hit on numerous occasions.
Go on you 2 kn0beads, go and see how your superannuated pension pot that I'm paying for is totting up, just before you buy your bosses lunch then lick their ar$es all afternoon!

sitting on the bench would not bother murphy he only came to boost his pension fund as i said months ago, he was not interested against charlton , and by the way it was orr and dann having a go at givet as they were going off at half time maybe he told them some home truths about time i say !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gael Givet is THE defender at Blackburn at the time being so this was brilliantly handled by Black, considering the circumstances. Givet is a leader, plays with commitment and desire, others would do well to learn from him tbh. Definitely should be made captain this season by the next manager.

(.. Remember the days when he probably would of been told to train with the kids and then sold on the sly whilst we the fans would be told some career-ending porkies by the odious one.)

Can't wait for Forest tonight, let's leather them for six!

Quite right Noddy, guys talk as if only our lads have 'differences' of opinion during matches. Most teams most games have them.
Any individual that can't take a bit of a ear bashin maybe is not in the 'right frame of mind' to be on the park.!

I like Gaels passion (even though I don't take the the common French), he represents to me the kind of player I have enjoyed way back when in the old second division campaigns.

Dont know how anybody can criticise Gael Givet. Yes he is emotional and yes we needed him 2nd half of game but he is human and all of us would have lost our rag in that set up by now. He plays like it means something and I like that. How Murphy got the captaincy over Givet,Peds, Dunny I dont know - well i do but you know what I mean

I said it after the boro game, the defence is not upto this level
I said Orr wouldn't be rated in the top 40 off defenders in his position and not in the top 100 as a defender, he has no pace no sense of positional play and will always be second in a tackle In a 50/50 challenge
Givet is a good pro and is at best a top 40 courage yes, positional play yes
Pace no
Dann hasn't become a bad player overnight, he has lost confidence, through last season and is scared off putting a foot wrong because of his fellow players, you can't cover 2 positions in defence you do your job, and expect them to do theirs
As for left back is anyone's guess, Olson plays to far up the pitch
And your back to the Dann situation again

I tell you what I want. I want players who when told to sh1t by the manager go and pick up a shovel. Not someone who goes off an sulks like a 6 year old. It's OK showing commitment but he needs to be disciplined.

BTW I'm actual[y doing some consultancy work for a local council at the moment and you are right in one thing they are lazy but poorly paid. But better than being on the dole isn't it? .
