Rovers to tell wantaway players that they cannot leave this summer
7:49am Tuesday 12th June 2012 in News
Exclusive By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
WANTS OUT Steven Nzonzi
BLACKBURN Rovers will tell their want away stars ‘you are not for sale’ this summer as Venky’s look to return the club to the Premier League at the first attempt.
A host of stars have already hinted they want to quit Ewood Park after last season’s relegation to the Championship – but Rovers have indicated they are ready to fight to keep most of their squad together.
The owners are resigned to losing the out of contract Junior Hoilett in the coming weeks, while a relegation clause in Yakubu’s contract will make it tough to keep the Nigerian in East Lancashire.
But, despite the likes of Mauro Formica, Martin Olsson and Steven Nzonzi wanting ‘out’, Venky’s are not planning on any ‘firesale’ this summer.
Rovers are also expected to announce a behind the scenes restructure imminently, with former Malaysian international Shebby Singh to be unveiled in a more influential role.
It is understood Singh, who has been combining his work as a pundit on Asian TV with developing football in the continent for Venky’s, will be appointed as an advisor for the Venky’s.
The role would see him acting as a ‘go-between’ between manager Steve Kean and his bosses in India, while also overseeing the club’s transfer policy.
The club’s PR man Paul Agnew has already been appointed as Rovers’ general manager and will start his duties in early July.
Steve Kean has returned to work after his holiday and will immediately set about looking to put his plans for next season into place.
The Rovers boss will be hoping he gets more freedom on who to bring into the club this summer, after a chaotic past transfer policy left Kean often relying on signings suggested by other quarters.
He is understood to still be waiting to be informed of his budget for the new campaign.
While confusion still reigns around Ewood Park, with staff members yet receive clear communication about the future, Kean will be hoping to convince his squad there is a bright future at the club.
Relegation clauses in most players’ contracts leave Venky’s confident they are‘financially’ ready for the new campaign, although they know they will face a battle in keeping players happy to stay at the club.
Their resolve to keep their ‘star names’ is likely to be severely tested and Kean’s first job will be to reassure the players there will be no repeat of last season’s chaotic regime.
A Venky’s source said: “We want to keep our players together. We don’t want to sell them this summer and won’t be looking to do that.
“We want to motivate them to stay at the club and to help us back into the Premier League. That is what we will be looking to do.”
Rovers fans will remain sceptical about Venky’s and Steve Kean’s plans for the future having seen so many unfulfilled promises over the past 18 months.
Their opinion won’t be helped by the uncertainty still hanging around the club, with some board members still yet to hear from India or Kean.
Venky’s have spoken of their desire to keep their top players previously, before selling the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Samba.
Season tickets are still not on sale for the new season, with Championship fixtures announced on Monday, while Rovers owners have yet to make an official statement since co owner Venkatesh Rao admitted everything was “confused”.
Kean is also due to hold talks with Colin Hendry this week about a possible coaching role at the club.

i think we will all welcome a bit more clarity around what is to come, but if it's that kind of decision, i can predict the response from the fanbase!
as for holding players to their contracts, i would applaud the thinking if we we're a stable club. however, given the turmoil and lack of direction, i think some of the players may well launch some kind of legal action if they are simply refused moves without discussion or contractual amendment. and they might well have a case.
again, it all seems a bit naive on venkys' part.

Just read the sporting intelligence article. there is nothing sporting or itelligent about the way our club is run from useless owners to useless Kean boot licking to get his cash. Disgraceful.
.
I call on any ST who did renew to now join the rest of us and cancel your Direct Debit or get a refund under law before the season starts. You must now realise these people will not stop behaving in this disgusting manner until ewood is completely empty. Starve them of any cash.
.
Patience is required as things change quickly if all fans stand up to these fake custodians they will leave.

Please don't believe a word they say.
They just want fans to purchase season tickets on the pretence that all our better players will be staying.
Remember what they said about Samba in January.
Obviously Hoilett will be leaving, and if I was a betting man, I would wager that Olsson, Nzonzi, Yakubu, Robinson etc will also be gone before the end of August.

People have been championing Andy Cryer for his 'efforts' this season despite the fact that he has been as poor, and spineless, in his job as Kean has been in his. Cryer is one of these journalists who relies on the telephone and Twitter instead of getting off his backside and doing some real investigative reporting, which surely this whole sorry state of affairs is crying out for! - no pun intended. I'm serious, whichever local reporter gets the 'dirt' on the people running the club into the ground, and I'm sure there's a lot of it, could possibly get a job with a national. Even when he's had the chance to grill Kean at press conferences he's just accepted the answers Kean has given despite the fact that every man and his dog knows Kean's lying, including Cryer himself.
Andy, a real journalist wouldn't sit back and accept the lies being fed to him just because the PR guy sat in the room tells them not to ask certain questions. Switch your computer off, put on your coat, grab a thermos flask and go and find Kean, whether it be at Ewood or Brockhall. Get under his skin, demand answers and if he lies to you make sure you contradict him with the truth. Especially make sure you ask him about that Hong Kong video, just so he squirms a bit more as nobody has asked him about that yet. Make a note of how many times he stutters and make reference to it in your next article.
Otherwise I'll be starting my very own 'Cryer Out' campaign, and I know plenty of people who would go along with it.

Its about time that our local sports journalist Andy Cryer demanded an interview with Kean.
If Kean refuses let us the public know.
There has been a news blackout around Ewood since we were relegated and questions need to be asked about the future direction of the club.
Fans / supporters deserve answers.
Mr Cryer, if Kean is back at hgis desk, get yourself down to Brockhall and ask real searching questions.

It seems that the Rovers is currently run by the cast of Liar Liar combined with Dumb and Dumber. To have any faith in anything that comes from Kean, Agnew, Desai, Rao I and Rao II they need a degree of credibility. To get a degree of credibility – you need to have built up some trust by delivering on your public pronouncements. To my mind none of our monstrous cabal have fulfilled a single one of their statements or promises.
Can anybody confirm whether Kean’s driver (sorry bodyguard) has been made Stadium Manager and whether he is a certified/qualified Health and Safety Manager. (I tweeted Cryer and asked him if he could confirm – but got no reply). If he is not H&S certified, then Rovers may be operating illegally. I know that will surprise nobody – but could lead to a prosecution.
As for Singh playing a wider role at the club – this probably means that Venkys and Kean see him as a suitable replacement for Olsson.

Kean is back at work and will remain so whilst he has the backing of Mrs Desai. The fact that her brothers have been trying to persuade her to sack Kean seems to have gone unnoticed!
.
Unfortunatley for Rovers they are but a small cog in the Venkeys machine and Mrs Desai isn't prepared to loose face to her family by sacking Kean. If she looses this battle it makes her more vulnerable to being ousted as the "top dog" within the family and, given how patriarchal family business normally is, she cannot afford to loose. Therefore Kean is staying!!!

In 1996 we had the same problem with a lack of communication, there was a meeting with Robert Coar, the then Chairman and although he was quite abusive for a minute or two the point was put to him and afterwards Rovers started to release more information to the Telegraph. In fact, I believe that there was an agreement that the Telegraph would always get to know before the national press. Andy Cryer will only get information when the management at Rovers - JA - decide to do so. He will have no control over what information is forthcoming and if he hounds them he will get even less information.
Some people posting on these pages really are clueless, I can't believe that people are still posting about Brockhall becoming a housing estate when it has been written 1000's of times on these pages that Venkys don't own Brockhall.

He doesn't seem to grasp there are some quite intelligent people in, say, the fraud squad; all of them, without exception, over the age of seven. This may be the reason they haven't done anything about it yet.
Who could his "source", or should that be "informant", possibly be? Someone in the ticket office probably; they've f@ck all else to do at the moment.
Whoever it was, they deserve our admiration for keeping a straight face whilst revealing this bombshell to C&G.
They are probably lying low somewhere in South America anyway, living in fear of a visit from "7th Dan", the ruthless Glaswegian gangland assassin, so we'll never know.
Just another point on this "theory";
fraudsters/gangsters
/da mob, call them what you will, only get a small proportion of money which is laundered. If they are only trying to "clean" £1 or £2m, they would actually only get a fraction of that. The figures I'm afraid continue not to add up.
Example; there is an internet scam going around at the moment where you will receive an e-mail offering you a job. It makes it sound like being an Avon lady or something like that, perfectly innocent. The "job" entails you receiving say £1000 into your account. You will then be asked to transfer, say, £600 on to another account, keeping the £400 as your "wage". This will be only one of several "favours" before the money can be considered "clean", all of which cost money. Layering, I believe it is called.
If they are happy to pay you 40% up front how much would they be prepared to come out with?
If you do get such an e-mail, go to the police. Accepting the money may make you liable for prosecution - aiding and abetting a crime.
That's my public service announcement for the day.
I'm not worried though, Shebby'll sort it all out.

Paul Agnew does not have the authority to sack the tea lady, never mind the owners little puppy.
It may have passed you by but he got the job on Kean's advice and is his principle ally.
If he was to even suggest sacking him he would be out the door as quick as, well, Paul Hunt.
He is appointed to the supposed major position of authority at the club just when all the plans for pre-season should be being finalized, transfer targets identified, hell, who knows, even season ticket prices announced and what does he do? F@cks off on holiday!
Just shows how committed he is to his beloved Blackburn Rovers or, more likely, how much use he thinks his new job actually is.
Any petition would have to go to Pune. Not that that would make any difference, but at least it would be the people in charge totally ignoring it.

As for those saying he's being restricted to what he can print due to fear of legal action being taken against the paper, nobody is asking him to print lies! All we want is for him to ask the right questions regardless of whether or not he's told to by Rovers' PR, and if Kean & Co try dodging them he needs to keep asking until answers are given. He also needs to pull Kean up on any contradictions, of which there are many, and he needs to stop taking "no" for an answer.
This isn't turn on Cryer week/day as far as I'm concerned because unlike some people I know he's not done nearly half as much as he could've.
As for the person saying he's probably a Rovers fan too, he's not. He's a Bristol City fan. He's made reference to it numerous times on his Twitter account. The same Twitter account he spends all day updating instead of doing some proper reporting.
The man's got comfortable and he's probably worried that if he asks the tough questions Rovers won't let him attend matches for free anymore.

These are four players who I am pretty sure would have been pleased to talk to Andy on or off the record – ‘gagging’ orders or not.
I still cannot understand why Andy let the departure – er, dismissal – of John Newsome pass in a three-sentence article and still be ‘waiting for a response’ from Venky’s, which he knows will never come.
Andy is getting opportunities to blow Venky’s out of the water, but frustratingly they are all passing him by.

Granted, he's a sports reporter and therefore he's probably only used to writing match reports but what is happening at Blackburn Rovers is about so much more than football results. Perhaps the editors need to put someone else on the job and leave Cryer to report on the cricket. If this was Liverpool or Manchester United you can bet that any journalist worth their salt would be trying to uncover what was happening at those clubs. Because it's Rovers the nationals don't care too much. Yet.
Cryer, as the LT's Rovers reporter should be door-stepping key members of staff as the enter or leave work, asking the awkward questions and printing the answers. Granted, they might not give any, and it won't make for fascinating reading, but the continual bad publicity about the refusal to communicate with the fans will at least show Venky's, Kean and Co that we, as a collective, will not forget what's happening at the club.
Articles like this one tell us nothing new. We don't want to hear what some 'source' in India says, we want to hear what Kean has to say. And not whether or not he's still manager, what budget he has, or if he's confident he can keep the squad together. We want to know why he insists on staying when it has such a detrimental effect on the club, the fans and the community? If he says the owners have faith in him then question whether they all do or if it's just Mrs Desai. Also put it to him that regardless of the owners' faith, they've proved that they don't know how to run a football club and therefore their judgement can't be trusted with regards to football matters. Remind him that this isn't a promotional vehicle for the owners and himself, it's the heartbeat of the community and what they're doing is not what's best for that community. Ask him how staying at a club and help running it into the ground is being dignified. I also want to know his reaction to THAT video, his ludicrous claims and his comments about Big Sam.
Like I've said, there's no guarantee we'll get answers but someone needs to be 'in their face' at every possible opportunity or Steve Kean will have the owner's believing that everything is rosy in the town.
(On a side note, someone questioned how it's possible to get a ticket for an away game if you haven't purchased a season ticket or a ticket for a home game. Away tickets go on sale to season ticket holders first, then if there's any left they'll be put on general sale. My friend came to see us at QPR and Swansea last season and they had neither.)
