Orr surplus to requirements at Ewood Park

BRADLEY Orr has completed a loan move to Ipswich Town after he was found surplus to requirements at Ewood Park.

The former QPR and Bristol City right back will today completed his move to Suffolk until January, with an option for a permanent deal once the transfer window reopens.

Orr only arrived at Rovers from Loftus Road at the start of the year, when Steve Kean opted to bring in the 30-year-old defender for a nominal fee.

Orr was a regular for the early part of the current campaign but, having lost his place in the starting line-up under new boss Henning Berg, he has been told he can leave Ewood Park.

Orr was keen on playing a key role in Rovers’ attempt to earn an instant Premier League return but believes his first team opportunities would be limited if he remained at Ewood Park.

He made 10 Premier League starts for Rovers in the second half of last season but was unable to prevent the club from crashing out of the top flight.

He has struggled to win over sections of Rovers supporters, after comments made by the defender in support of former boss Steve Kean last season.

The emergence of teenager Adam Henley during Berg’s tenure has seen Orr left on the bench in all three of the Norwegian’s matches in charge.

Berg insisted after he initially left him out of the trip to Palace that Orr still had a place in the club’s future, but the defender believes his opportunities would be limited.

Meanwhile Birmingham City skipper Steven Caldwell has hailed Scottish team-mate and Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes ahead of this evening’s friendly away at Luxembourg.

The former Burnley defender, who marked him in Saturday’s draw at Ewood Park, said: “He is a very difficult player to play against because he has lots of great movement and is a very willing player.

“He is always sitting on your shoulder and sniffing around for an opportunity to get across you and get either a header or a shot in on goal.

“He makes sure you have to concentrate on your game all the time and that is what we had to do against him. I am 100 per cent sure he is going to have an excellent future ahead of him. “I am so pleased he is Scottish.

“He is one of us and he gives us another option up front.

“We have got a great player like Kenny Miller coming to the end of his career, but who is still very good and we have also got (Stephen) Fletcher, Jamie Mackie and Naismith to provide competition for him over the next few years.”

Well Berg must know his players and it must have only took an initial review of our videoed games to realise he was pathetic.

Excellent news. Even though he was part of the Kean collective, I would say my delight comes more from the fact we've offloaded somebody who was sh!t and it only took two weeks There was no beurocracy and no warning this would happen, just gone. With any luck this will give everyone a large Norwegian boot up the back one !!

Anyways Orr was not good enough so HB has moved him on for the right reasons
Can we stop keep banging on about SK and the perceived connections though?

Something must have happened and it's ok providing we have cover. It's not fair to keep playing Jason in that position as he should be allowed to play midfield, not right back or on the wing. Young Hanley seems a good talent in that position and looks good for the future.

I'm expecting a good ear-full for this one, but still...

Have we got a loan replacement? We are short on defenders and we have let another one go out on loan... Don't get me wrong, up until the last couple of games I saw him as a total liability on the pitch and would have been glad for him to go and put a forward in defence... He has stepped his game up and I thought he was a contender for man of the match at one game.

I applaud Berg for what he is doing at rovers, we really look like a team that is going to be returning to the rovers we have always been. If he has a replacement then I suppose that comment is pointless, if he doesn't then I'm a tad bit worried... Lets see anyway eh?!

Berg is probably having a clear out now to get some off the wage bill in preparation for the January transfer window.
He'll probably bring in one or two defenders then, If only on loan, I think.

Very poor player offloaded; no pace, no vision. He was easy meat for opposition wingers and because he was so weak other defenders had to cover him leaving the defence unbalanced. If that was not sufficient, his ingratiating statements on relegation had me, and I suspect, many others, spitting feathers.

this is a good move and shows henning is really trying to stamp his mark on the team, got a sneaky suspicion he might even be toying with the idea of a 3-5-2 formation, would make sense when you have no defenders and an army of midfielders.

Orr is one of a group of deadwood hangers on at Ewood who are all surplus to requirements. Let us hope Henning continues to wield the axe over the squad and has a long hard look at his coaching staff. Hendry and Kean saw Orr as a premier league full back when it is unclear if he will be of the standard of a championship club fighting relegation. Interesting that the papers report Van Nistleroy is looking for a coaching post. Carry on Henning and order a taxi for Hendry

He was a poor signing by a poor judge of talent. I think we should let his lapse of character on relegation night pass though. I suspect strongly that players were told somebody had to talk to Sky and none of the other would do it. Orr, being relatively new, volunteered and in his naievity felt appropriate to defend his manager. Dont forget how cocked up the whole situation must have been for the players too. They literally had nobdy except Kean. Previously players talked to JW. We desperately need a couple of good defenders now

Stood on the Riverside for decades with my mates several of whom have now joined Uncle Jack looking down from that Grandstand in the sky watching the sad events of the last two years.
Abandoned my season ticket seat in the JW Stand at the end of last season as a protest against the Venkys/Kean regime taking the club away from the supporters.
This has left a gap in my life as a lifelong Rovers supporter and I am fervently hoping for Venkys somehow to get the club back running along the right track and for Henning, who I always admired as a player, to prove successful.
Hope I will be returning soon to spend a few more happy years!

Yes. Chris Price was a good one. And what about little Johnny Price the winger , Great to watch him skin the full backs.
As a BFC supporter it is really heartening to read the banter about players from the past! I know I'm old and often grumpy but this banter is what a 'comments' site should be about - not foul language and twisted mentalities hogging a page which is supposed to be about football! Keep up the friendly, nostalgic banter......... whoever you support and 'love to hate' Football should always be the winner!
Those were the days when Rovers & Burnley fans used to watch each others
games on alternate weeks - one of my mates had a season ticket for each club.
Rivalry was still very much there but none of todays absolute hatred that many portray was in evidence.
As for the twisted comments on this site that regularly appear from both sides - they are best ignored before developing into a slanging match.
I am of the opinion that events on the field may have spread hatred to the terraces when I think back to the days of Lochead and England and the duels
that took place and the sendings off.
Now we have pub warfare and wrecking of town centres all in the name of sport

Now, heres a signing that shows that Kean wasnt up to the job. Kean fell out with Emerton and Salgado last year so was left with Jason Lowe as the only right back. The only cover he could get was Bradley Orr from QPR reserves. Looking at Orr a couple of times this season, he has been decent, but no better than that in the Championship and struggled in the Prem.
.
Berg has come in, seen that straight away and now is backing Henley as first choice, so Orr has to go.
.
Mick McCarthy probably has no right backs at Ipswich, so wants one that will do a decent job and cost him nothing...good bit of business for all parties and most of all...
.
pleasing that Henning has made this strong footballing decision at a time that the club is crying out for exactly that!

Hold on there ... one moment ... much as I'm delighted that the 'pleb' (can I say that?) Orr has gone - talentless both on and off the pitch and a good mate of Joey Barton (says it all!) ... I will say I don't think Henning is a 'yes' man - but I do know Shebby arrived at the club with a dislike of Orr and an admiation for Henley ... which although being quite good and showing good nouse - it is still quite worrying that power may go to Shebby's head!

Regardless the re-build is on - crap buys by Kean - OUT - can we rebuild with some characters like Short, Tugay, Jansen, et al (he could be Portuguese!) - again?

C'mon - must start with three points on Saturday ... up the blues! Currently 5 points worse off after 16 games than when we finished runners-up to Fulham!

Oh and Orr once Ipswich find out how truely s***e you are - don't even think of trying to driving back into town, there's enough s***e without you and your likes! Now sod off and Suffolk-Well!

Well done Henning. Gets rid of a below par player (I'm being kind), instantly gets the fans onside, plus if Ipswich sign him in January, it frees up a wage bill for a new player. Good work.

I find it ironic that it comes after Orr played - in my opinion - his best game for us against Watford. Not that I want him back :)

@silverstan. We badly need more centre-backs not less. Keep Dann and Givet for now. Just add better players too.
What we need in the back four is some leadership from an experienced player. Someone in the style of Ryan Nelson. Craig Short or even Berg himself. Dann has been a disappointment given the amount of money we paid for him but he will never lead the back line. Givet again isn't a leader.

RTID
Right - Chris ... Orr is s***e we all pretty much knew that the minute e set foot in the club and before he displayed his serious lack of quality bot on and off he pitch!

Replacement? Well our best right-full back is now in the team - shame he was 4th choice with Kean at the begining of the season!

We also have Lowey who could move into that position and of course the lesser-spotted Bruno - who although probably not upto it at this level either is twice the player Orr will ever be!

Right so right full-back we can probably get away with now ... the right hand side of midfield and centre-back are two totally different conundrams altogether!

We've still not a single wide right midfield player on our books ... it took us the best part of two seasons to replace Duff ... and it's the same thing happening now on the right ... meanwhile for me Scott Dann isn't getting much better and Grant Hanley will NEVER be good enough even at championship level - I'm afraid to say ... he's our present day Martin Taylor/Bob Dewhurst rolled into one ... oh Scotland are sturggling - he's crap!

Gael is French - so you don't quite know what you'll get there - depends which way the wind is blowing ... and he was centre-back number 4 - inherited by Kean ... behind Samba, Jones and Nelsen!

A great squad of players inherited by Venky's and allowed to be ruined in the hands of Kean and his agent! -- END --

Dennis, I take my hat off to you with respect sir, Eckersley retired about 50 years ago and played about 400 times for Rovers, so you must be the same generation as Jack Walker. Hope you are still going down to Ewood Park, most of your mates are probably in the Riverside !

It's ok saying go out and spend money on players but where is the money coming from?? All the money spent on agent's fees last year was astronomical. The club cannot spend money it hasn't got it would be foolish and irresponsible. 38 players on the books by all accounts and we drastically need to reduce the numbers to get the wages down. Haven't read all of this thread - so my apologies if somebody else has mentioned this already.

Chris Price was one of my favourite full backs. Remember him being an integral part of Don Mackay's team that had a long unbeaten run that finally ended in a loss away at Stoke.

Anyway, talking about him on this forum led me to check him out on Wikipedia.

It would seem he has suffered a terrible accident in Australia.

My best wishes to you Chris - thank you for all the entertainment when I was a teenager. Hope things improve for you.

Aren't we glad we didn't end up with Mick McCarthy!! So glad we got Berg, the future is looking bright. Henning will sort out the players who want to play for Rovers and ship out the dead legs, Come on you Blues!!!
I agree...he needs to ship out the dead legs but they have to be off the books - not just loaned out. Perhaps they should also get rid of Dunn, Pederson and Givet?? Pederson is allegedly on 50k a week so we need to get his wages off the balance sheet. I think for the good of the club, the fans need to know exactly who earns what!! It is important for the future of the club to have some transparency. We do not want to end up as another Portsmouth. Good to see Rhodes scoring twice tonight btw!!
Givet and Pederson both have the top level - big game experience that the squad and the team really needs. Both can still do a very good job for the Rovers at this level. To get rid of either this season would be a big mistake and I think Berg will know that. Agree about Rhodes, playing and scoring at International level will help him progress and help us also. The 8 million (which includes all the add-ons) is beginning to look like the steal of the season.
Sorry FR have to disagree....Givet hasn't been the player he was since the suspicious money issues. Time for him to go I think!!
Nope - this young squad - and especially the defense - needs Givet's experience UNLESS they can bring in a more experienced and equally as good or better CH. As for the pantomime cast you mention.....well you read the blogs so maybe you can write the review Mr. D2I.....as I am far too decent a bloke to dish the dirt on my friendly fellow bloggers.

Dennis, I take my hat off to you with respect sir, Eckersley retired about 50 years ago and played about 400 times for Rovers, so you must be the same generation as Jack Walker. Hope you are still going down to Ewood Park, most of your mates are probably in the Riverside !
Cheers Greenscreenner
Dennis,

I did a bit of soul-searching myself before renewing for the last 2 seasons, and watching the early matches this season I was honestly starting to regret it. But the entertainment against Birmingham reminded me why Ewood Park is in my blood and I'm not going to let a bunch of idiots ruin it for me.

Find a pub to watch the match on Saturday, I hope and prey it will remind you that there's no better way to spend an afternoon.

Let us know what you decide.

Cheers.

Thanks for your suggestion Greenscreener but I can't bring myself to do it yet.
Maybe a combination of Christmas Spirit and decent results will help but the real problem to me is Venkys.
At least Shebby appears to have dried up since his "handling" of the managerial appointment and left Henning to do the talking although it would be nice to hear from Messrs Shaw & Agnew occasionally as I wonder what purpose they are serving
