Well so far he seems to be talking a lot of sense. he needs time to sort this mess out. Please, to all the fans, give him the time he needs and don't get on his back, hes only just come in for goodnesss sake. He seems to be staright talking and clued up, a refreshing change from the recent past!!

Looks like he's already identified all the no hopers brought in by Shabby - there might be hope for us after all, if we can clear them out, and hopefully send Shabby packing as well. We can get round to removing Shaw and Agnew at a later date.

I must say he is talking a good game. He seems to have weighed the situation up nicely. and in a short time, too. Lets see if he can deliver - and by that I mean keep them in this league. All upward options are out - permanently!

Orr is not as bad a player as many of you seem to make out, he also doubles up as a backup CB. It would make sense to bring him back considering we only have two experienced CB's at the club! (Givet not included as he wants to leave)

What is going on is good for the club. Players might loose there comfort zone.

MP is making all possible to reduce the players and keep up with the quality.

When we look, we got 15 midfeild players and none of them perform with a class. Get new attacking playmakers at the center and give some pace in the game.

All makes sense but so what.... should be apparent to anyone with the most limited knowledge that we are burdened with players (mostly from Portugal) signed by Kean and Singh who are of no benefit to the team. My worry is that Appleton was signed because of his track record of sorting out this sort of situation and not because of his track record of winning matches. Three times now Venkys have appointed managers not qualified for the job (in terms of sucess on the pitch). Appleton might also have been hired because Berg was right in the first place - that no credible manager would be interested in the Rovers' job. If Appleton turns out to be no different to his predecessors and if we lose (as is quite possible) our run of upcoming home matches, where does that leave us? Probably with Gary Bowyer (the new Tony Parkes) back in charge. At least GB now has a decent track record and should in my view been given longer.

What a breath of fresh air, at long, long last we appear to have a manager who looks like he has control, knows what he wants and what he is doing.

So starting tonight lets get behind him and whoever he puts out on the pitch.

We were stuffed by a crap side on Saturday, tonight's opponents are a totally different proposition, Rovers will need each and every one of us behind them.

I think if you look at recent seasons ( not this one ) teams with Kevin Phillips in the team have been closer to the top of the league than bottom. I would think he would be good for Rhodes. He would also make a good impact player. Something we are desperately short of at the minute. My only negative would be if we brought Phillips in what would be the point of Gomes being here. Both experienced players but at the end of their careers. They can pass on their experience to Rhodes but not sure we need two of them on the wage bill.

Certainly agree with the removal of Shaw Agnew and Singh plus the over rated, over paid has beens - but as form incoming moves only time will tell but dont hold your breath it looks like loans, freebies and some cheap transfers!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent work Agent Appleton, they actually think you are talking sense... You couldn't make it up. Keep dropping those big names, Wiseman, Dawson, Phillips, etc and talk about reducing the wage bill ready for Operation League One... the natives are lapping it up!

In all seriousness, I am encouraged by what he has said so far. I don't care if it is all staged managed by a professional PR company, after all, we have been crying out for someone to manage the image of the club since these clowns took over and I would like to get back to the good old days when it was events on the pitch that were the headlines. It's going to be a good season next year, competing with Villa for a promotion spot. Here's hoping we sign a striker from Barcelona, just like Don did!

Appleton will do ok sorting out the rubbish at the club, and being straight talking.
However as for ambition and getting in to the Premier League and staying there then hes unproven.

I dont think getting Orr back is a bad judgement call. Let's take a real life example. You get a new job for a new company as a manager. You are in charge of 30 people, 1 of which is a remote worker and has a reputation (from your customers) for not being very good at what he does. Would you:
a) Take your customers word for it and have him sacked and or made redundant?
b) Bring the employee back from his remote working location and monitor his performance and make a call from there?

I actually think given the current defensive situation at Rovers that this is a very very good call by Appleton, if Orr carries on to be abysmal then fair enough, get rid. If he turns out to be the defensive revelation we have been screaming out for, then this can only be a good thing.
He has spoke about getting older players to help the younger players come through, if this means signing Kevin Philips on loan for a few months, then fair enough.

fair comment T4E - but talk is a cheap commodity at the Rovers and has been for two seasons now. But fair play to the bloke, he tells it like it is, without the faux positive slants of the odious one. I think Rovers have slipped up by not letting the half season ticket holders into the match. Given the woeful display on Saturday and the weather we need as many in Ewood as possible hopefully backing the team to a surprise win.

Joking aside I did have the same thought reading everybody's comments. What has he actually said? Protests affected the game, he has a plan, he has to cut costs(last two managers have had same task hence getting rid of better players ),he's looking at the squad. Each new manager has spoken like they are in charge but we all know it's never the case. I've grown immune. It's going to take tangible evidence that a)venkys are in fact listening to himand b)some semblance of order resumes on the pitch

I note that Ipswich aren't desperate to keep him.
Whatever Apple says it's venkys who run the club and they hired him for his experience of tidying up a mess at Pompey to allow an absent owner to pull out.
Rovers need a two to three year plan to get some stability, does anyone seriously think that's also Venky's plan ?
The most sensible plan for Apple is to sit down with Bowyer and say "sorry you missed out, mate, but you know the squad, let me pick your brains".
I would be mightily relieved to hear or read that's being done and I'd appreciate some honest statement by Apple about his future relationship with the duo who did well as temps.
As for Phillips, a good idea, but we have one good old head to help Rhodes and that's Nunes, just drop "I'm here to tweat, not play" Kazim.

The guy strikes me as straight to the point and his points about squad size and competition for places makes sense, we have 19 games left although a massive ask, it is really not beyond the realms of possibility that given a run of good performances we could make it into the play-offs, there are only two teams in this league that I would say are of a reasonable quality, thats leicester and Cardiff the rest are just mediocre.

The atmosphere at saturdays game was awful, understandable and I am not sure why venkys chose that game to come too really. I don`t think MA`s comment about them not coming to the game is an accident, people came with a point to make saturday and it was made. for some to over the top for others a public flogging would not have been enough, nevertheless, it was made and tonight as fans we should let it go for now. What have we got to lose by trying to get behind the team. If those who say there is no chance now are right, then lets just go for the crack and try to avoid feeling like mass suicide is a viable proposition every time we leave the ground. If their wrong then happy days we scrape into the play offs and who knows, it just not make sense to right the season off with 19 games to go.

Anyone who knows anything about football will know a Rovers Return is a long process witha lot of hrad work and more than a few up and downs on the way.

What he says makes sense and if GB can bring on the Academy players to augment the smaller squad that is how it should be

Those who expect instant results GET REAL - lets consolidate and build for the future this season because if we got up we have not the quality needed to be competitive but an unbeaten run starting tonight would be great for everyone - so lets unite and focus on the football on the pitch and forget the politics upstairs which we wont influence one iota however many snowballs are thrown - sad idea -

Any young players coming throgh the academy that shw true quality will then be sold ie jones, by that time we will have dropped down n or two divisions

I hope he's included lots of pages. These Venks will need somewhere to wipe their 4rses.

The sheer contempt that they show for any good suggestions on how to move a football club forward is staggering.

They are not for changing. If they were unhappy at taking the club down, they haven't shown it.

They still can't be bothered to listen to all the free advice to get a tried and tested manager for any chance of ressurecting their failed attempt at running a top football club.

They don't want to sell, how much more is there to ruin? They're not here for the football that's clear.

The recent hatred from fans was inevitable, they've tossed many of their letters of disgust aside for the last two years,how else would ordinary paying customers communicate with such aloof people.

We have too many left sided players in midfield all vying for one position also as our centre midfielders are as static as I am since my knee packed in we need some more dynamics in there. If we could get someone in to drive the play forward, it would take pressure off our flakey back four. this in turn will breed confidence. I also think that fitness levels, although improving, are not quite where they should be.
So Mr Appleton if you sort out some width and get better service to Rhodes we will become less one dimensional and be harder to play against

It's been blatantly obvious to any knowledgeable Rovers fan what is needed, since Anderson, Kean and lately Singh threw a bunch of football players together without any thought, and expected it to be a team.

If MA does have an action plan and spells out in no uncertain terms to the Venky's how to proceed in the future, at least it will be someone who has football knowledge rather than some self congratulating idiots with no knowledge.

A thorough squad and backroom overhaul is required and there is plenty of deadwood and moneygrabbers to pick from.

BRFC need players up for the game and ready to give all for the cause.

Best hope the actions of the mentally deficient at the weekend have dampened what could be a turning point.

It would also be good if BRAG and BRIST could keep there inflatory opinions to themselves until MA has at least been able to stamp his authority within Ewood.

Regards to transfers, the Venky's should of seen that their major transfer delivers on the rare occasion he is given a chance. Rhodes has been fantastic. If we don't go up (which we most likely won't) then keeping Rhodes is going to be our next battle.

Appleton reminds me very much a Gordon Lee, in I think 1974. Lee sold every player he could get a fee for and then kicked out virtually all the rest replacing them with hard working journeymen footballers. His sides lacked flair or charisma but he got us the 3rd division tittle before going to Newcastle where you can imagine how popular he was with the Geordies with his mundane unimaginative approach to the game

So our differences aside, instead of just saying its obvious, stick yer neck out and explain what needs doing.
Another thing is to compensate for our lack of pace in midfield and in the baxk four, we are playing too deep. This invites too much pressure on our flakey back four who usually buckle under it. We need to push the play 15 yards further forward. Make the opposition worry about us, not the other way round. To action that I would make Hanley lose a stone and work on his ability to cover ground quicker. Scott Dann should take more aerial responsibility and stop fannying around. One should go, one should drop, jesus its not difficult, they aren't working as a pair because no-one is taking resposibility, no one is saying, you go and I'll drop, how easy is it FFS. Any football input from you at this jucture would be good

Any player who can command a decent fee will be sold in the summer.

Whilst I agree that some players are creaming a living, it won't just be them that are sold.

They will sell players and slash the wage bill, to pay for their sheer incompetence over the past 26 months.

'Reducing the wage bill' is a priority for the club. As it prepares for a long stay in the Championship at best. And with gates heading below 10,000 more likely Division 1. It doesn't take long for mismanagement by the owners to take serious effect.

I can't believe that Rovers have emailed all half season ticket holders saying that they can't use their new ticket tonight & they have to buy a ticket for tonight's game (because it is a rearranged game!). I thought they wanted more people to attend Home matches - I could have understood the decision if the match was likely to sell out, but we'll be lucky to get over 12000 tonight. What they've done is alienate another few hundred supporters (who they must think are daft anyway to have bought a half season ticket this season!) & will lose the income from programme/food/drink sales tonight. The only hing you can rely on now at BRFC is that if they can screw things up , they definitely will do!

What MA is saying makes a lot of sense and is clearly part of the journey we need to undertake, the damage done by Kean, Anderson and cronies cannot be undone over night.

Generally agree with a lot of the comments made about players MA like us has seen teams all season who are quicker to the ball, win the 50/50s or second ball, defend resolutely and break at pace. They are also able to run for the full 90 minutes which our players do not seem able to do.

The conclusions therefore are easy the players are not fit enough, not good enough and don't care enough.

I agree with MA re transfers too but do feel we are very weak at the back.

If Mr Appleton has a plan is honest and sticks to it the rovers fans will back him its as simple as that.

at newcastle gordon lee famously had a go at supermac macdonald for playing for england not scotland - macdonald asked lee - "how come you don't manage china then?"

Listening to Appleton I cannot help wondering isn't that what Singh should have been doing? Well that's. £400k saving on the wage bill already. Venkys have got rid of all the Premiership big earners in the 2 years they have been in charge. The quality in this squad of players is amongst the worst I have seen in my time of following Rovers. Most of the squad are kids or has-beens why are they on big wages ????

Two prime examples are Bruno Ribero and Myles Anderson 12.5 k per week, plus agents fees and signing on fees.

These two alone cost the club around 4m in total.

Because they're bonkers and they've proved it over and over again with their ridiculous decision making.

Firstly, venkys were lucky it was only a snowball!! People are calling the person or people "idiots" which was really only a "jest" - personally, I think a chicken would have been better.....
Now read between the lines - how are rovers going to improve their position by LOWERING the wage bill!?!? I know we have a large squad with some poor players, but to get promoted (as venkys state they want!) we have to INVEST!! Leicester - sign woods, Cardiff - sign Campbell - on low wages? My arse!! We are going nowhere but mid-table if we are lucky.

Just trying to point out that in my world, women and children don't get treated like 2nd class animals or something you have stepped in, which seems to be the acceptable standards by which you live.

Here is a simple, but effective plan that will make a sizeable eduction in the wage bill, can be implemented immediately, and is guarranteed to improve the quality:
1. Summarily dismiss for incompetence and neglect The Global Adviser, Agnew, Shaw, Coar and Hendry. Replace them with the man who threw the snow ball. He seems committed and looks like he works cheap.
2. Terminate the PR Firm. They cost a fortune, contribute nothing and their penchant for the owners turning up in a fleet of Rolls Royces like the Maharajas of Blackburn adds further to the overheads.
3. Ban the Venkys form visiting Ewood Park. Their expenses billed to the club are not merited when we only get 65 minutes out of them and not the full 90. In any event Vindaloo is so badly dressed that he gives the impression that the club is owned by gangsters.
4. Stop firing managers every couple of months. It is now apparent that the Venkys are so bad that it doesn't make any difference who the manager is. We have had our best periods by far since BFS left when we have been without a manager. Going back to the chap who threw the snowball, he seems to have a good eye for line and length so why not give him the job next time.

Sounds like his plan will be make uncomfortable reading for Venky's.

Talk about putting one's job on the line. I don't think they like seeing what they don't want to!

Since when has it been a football mangers main priority to reduce the wage bill. This is clearly the main objective of venkys and the main directive that has been issued to Appleton.
Don't get me wrong players need to go, but they need replacing by better players.

The other names like WIseman hardly inspires, I know we are not going to get true quality but a lot of your standards on this forum seem to dissipate by the day.
Appletons 'experience' of working with a squad of 22 just underlines his limited background and the poor teams that he has managed, This was because of the economic constraints of those clubs.

The following is what i would like to see. I know we can't do it all but it gives a good idea of what should be done in the next 6-7 months:

Sell/release:
Paul Robinson - Kean has staked his claim and deserves it. Paul's wages mean he should move on
Nuno Henrique - If he's not good enough to make the bench he should go
Gaël Givet - Contract ends at end of the season and he'll be on decent wages. Time to replace. Davies?
David Dunn - On high wages and not fit enough or consistent enough. Time for him to retire and take up a full time coaching role
Mauro Formica - To inconsistent and would rather we had a British CAM in. Is a known fact that he wants to go home to Argentina.
Dickson Etuhu - Woeful CDM. Time to get rid of and replace.
Jordan Slew - The experiment failed. Time to move him on.
David Goodwillie - Can't score and to rash... Sell...
Amine Linganzi - Shouldn't still be at the club. Release.

Review Vukcevic:
Is likely on excessive wages. If he cannot play CAM sell him. He hasn't got the pace for the wing.

Grzegorz Sandomierski - Being beaten to the bench by Usai!

As for the players sold/released. My my estimation it would leave us needing to sign 6 players which is around the number Appleton is looking at.

We need a Full Back to replace Givet, Right Midfielder who can cross and has a little bit of pace, a Central Defensive Ball Winning/Passing Midfielder to replace Etuhu, a Utility Central Midfielder box to box, a central attacking midfielder to replace Formica/Dunn and complement Murphy and last but not least we need a optional goalscorer to replace Goodwillie.

I know we have Gomes and Leon Best. But Gomes injury record has been iffy and we cannot be sure Best won't relapse.

Colin Kazim Richards is a decent forward along with Rochina, but they are not prolific goalscorers.

That leaves us getting rid of 10-11 players which would relieve a huge pressure from the wagebill and bring in 6 with at least two of those coming in on loan.

Maybe even more going out on loan.
