Driver taken hospital by air ambulance after crash in Mellor
4:42pm Friday 13th April 2012 in Mellor
A MAN was taken to hospital by air ambulance after his car collided with a bin wagon in Mellor this afternoon.
Police closed Mellor Lane outside the Spread Eagle Hotel, while firefighters removed the side of the black BMW, to free the man, said to be in his mid 20s.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “We were called to the incident at 2.50pm to assist the paramedics.
“We spent about 15 minutes using Holmatro cutters and spreaders to remove the side of the car because the man was trapped.
“He was conscious and breathing throughout, but may have suffered some chest injuries, which is why the air ambulance was called.”
The driver of the bin wagon is said to have been uninjured.
