AN ELDERLY woman had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering several broken bones when her car collided with another vehicle.

At 12.45pm on Sunday the 89-year old and her 85-year-old female passenger were travelling along the A59 Sawley Brow at Clitheroe when the red Ford Ka collided with a BMW. The BMW then collided with a tractor.

The driver of the Ka suffered a broken ankle, broken rib and injuries to her neck and back. She was airlifted to the Royal Blackburn Hospital .

Her passenger, who was also taken to hospital, and the 37-year-old BMW driver received some bruising.

The 23-year-old man tractor driver was uninjured.
