The musical extravaganza was a culmination of a series of summer musical events organised by the town council.

Bill Alker the town clerk, who helped out at the event, said he was very pleased with the turn out.

He said: “It was a brilliant day, it was great to see many people bringing food hampers and drinks along to make a proper day of it.

“The band was amazing, playing Beatles medleys and ABBA medleys.”

The Proms started at 6.30pm and finished at 9.00pm.

Cllr Sue Knox, the mayor of Clitheroe, said the weather played its part.

She said: “It was a fantastic event, it was very successful, we were very lucky with the weather.

“It was great to see families there, watching the young children dancing at the front of the stage.”

Mrs Knox also invited Clitheroe Community Champions to the event to recognise their work.

Although the event coincided with the Clitheroe Food Festival, Mr Alker said it didn’t stop the crowds coming in.

He added: “The food festival I believe was very successful and so were we.”

Mrs Knox said it was estimated £1,800 was raised for the Mayor’s Welfare Fund.

She said: “People gave generous donations. A big thank to everyone who contributed towards the mayor’s welfare fund which distributes money to the community, such as the food banks.”
