A CHARITY football match takes place tomorrow in memory of an ex-serviceman who lost his battle with cancer.

Park versus Rimington will kick-off at 6.45pm at Coulthurst Sports Ground, Back Lane, Rimington, in aid of The Wooley Foundation, set up in memory of ‘inspirational’ war veteran Warren Wolstencroft.

The father-of-four, 39, served as part of the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment before being diagnosed with rare form of bone cancer Epithelioid Sarcoma 12 years ago.

In his final weeks, he organised many charity events including a football match at Blackburn Rovers Football Club with David Dunn and Colin Hendry and raised thousands of pounds for BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association) and the East Lancashire hospice.

The Wooley Foundation charity was set up in his honour to carry on his work and aims to empower cancer patients and relieve them of the stress they face in day to day life.

Hundreds gathered at Accrington’s Masonic Hall last week for his funeral.

Warren’s brother, Christopher Wolstencroft, will be playing in the event.
