Motorcyclist dies in Ribble Valley collision

A MOTORCYCLIST died in a road accident in the Ribble Valley yesterday afternoon.

The 47-year-old man was involved in a collision with a grey Nissan Navara in Bolton-by-Bowland, and died at the scene.

The man, from Adlington, was killed at around 1.40pm, police said. The biker had been travelling near Spring Woods towards Sawley when he collided with the 4x4 vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, on a left hand bend.

The rider was thrown from his bike and sustained substantial injuries, which proved fatal at the scene. The driver of the 4x4, who was from the Wyre area, was uninjured.

Sgt Gareth Hill, from the Force Road Policing Unit, said: “ I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision or saw the motorcyclist riding his distinctive blue Yamaha YFZ-R1 in the Clitheroe or Bolton-by-Bowland area prior to the collision to contact police on 101.”
