A Ribble Valley man is raising money in memory of his grandmother by taking on the 10 highest peaks in England for Dementia UK.

Peter McLay, from Wilpshire, was inspired by the film ‘Nims 14 Peaks’ on Netflix to take on a similar challenge and decided to do it in aid of the charity which helped his grandmother as she battled the disease.

After sadly losing her fight in December, Peter decided to he would climb the 10 highest mountains in the country while documenting the incredible feat of endurance YouTube.

Similar to the Three Peaks challenge, which sees people climb each of the highest mountains in England, Wales, and Scotland, Peter will aim to hit the 10 peaks back-to-back in as quick a time as possible along with a team of friends.

Peter said: “I hike regularly and have been inspired by Nims Purja, who climbed the 14 highest mountains in the world that was featured on Netflix.

"I wanted to take on a big challenge this year to test myself mentally and physically and thought why not put a spin on what Nims did and do something in the UK.

“I settled on the 10 highest mountains in England and called the challenge Summit 10.

"I have always been into challenging myself but thought this year I’d really push the boat out and see what can be achieved.

“We will be doing this to raise money for Dementia UK. My grandma passed away on December 31 after suffering a long battle with dementia.

"I witnessed the effects of this disease first-hand and the affect it had not only on my grandma’s lifestyle, but also my family’s.

“I wanted to give back to a charity that helped my grandma and family during the years of hardship.”
