Residents are being called upon to take part in the first Rotary club walk since the start of the Covid pandemic.

Since the annual charity walk started 20 years ago, the residents of Hyndburn have always turned out in force, with never fewer than 300 people taking part.

This has meant that year after year, the event has been a success, with charities and good causes receiving substantial funds from sponsored walkers.

However due to Covid, the walk has not been held for the past three years, and the Rotary club is hoping that this year’s event will be as successful as those in the past.

However registrations so far have been low, and although many people register on the day, the club is worried it may fall short of its target of walkers.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldwistle said: "Therefore, with only 10 days to go before the walk takes place on Sunday May 14, Rotary is asking for everyone to rally round and either register beforehand or turn up on the day, with or without sponsorship.

"The walk starts at 9.30am from Accrington Stanley's football ground, and will be either 10k or 5k and the new route takes walkers up to The Coppice giving grand views of Hyndburn.

"There will be plenty of stewards at all key points to ensure the route is closely controlled. Sadly, neither the 10k or the 5k is suitable for push chairs or wheel chairs, although dogs are most welcome."

The entrance fee is £8 per person if booked in advance or £10 on the day. Under 12 go free.

President Dawn Taylor said: "Hyndburn Rotary is asking for all walkers to do their best to take part in this event, and hopefully new registrations will ensure a grand turnout, and I am sure  all walkers will enjoy a splendid day on this new route."
