Expecting to see the first act as compere, when Katie Mulgrew appeared as MC I was pleasantly surprised.

The daughter of comedy legend Jimmy Cricket bounced onto stage and immediately connected with the audience, no mean feat for a 26-year-old. It’s perhaps a disservice citing her as the daughter of a comedian. She is very likeable and funny in her own right.

First up was John Scott, originally billed as MC, who went down pretty well with the audience. I would like to catch him as a compere though as I think he'd do a good job.

Next was Andrew Ryan, with the voice of Ardal O’Hanlon and the face of my friend Luke. He explained the joys of getting ‘one of them girlfriend things’, much to the dismay of his mate ‘2 legs Liam’, so named as he only has one arm. Ryan’s set was well received by the crowd of about 65.

I was probably the only disappointed person in the room to find the headliner had changed from Tom Wrigglesworth to Chris McCausland, although the acts are subject to change without notice.

However, Chris McCausland was fantastic, and any fears I had for him headlining were soon allayed as he did a sterling job. His story about going to Rio and the only beer being Skol was brilliant and he was definitely my pick of the evening.
