OPERA North returns to The Lowry with a stunning production of Bizet’s classic opera, Carmen.
As a relative newcomer to this particular art form I have to confess I was very impressed by this production and the sensual score.
If you have never seen an opera before this is definitely an excellent starter before you move on to the more demanding works.
This colourful and sexy production sent my spirits soaring on a damp and drab Spring night and the singing, as many who go to The Lowry will testify, is absolutely outstanding.
Men are drawn to Carmen like moths to a flame. She’s alluring, exciting and she can seriously damage your emotional well being. Just ask Jose, who tries to win her back in the final act.
A production to stir the soul and set the pulse racing and Sandra Piques Eddy gives a performance to remember in the title role. It was a real pity that there wasn’t a bigger audience to see it. A must see.
