There’s nothing better than a pantomime to kick off the Christmas season, and Pendle Productions’ Mother Goose really hits that festive spot.
Abundant with something for everyone, there are no fewer than two villains — wicked Fairy Vanity (panto favourite Justine Bailey) and Squire McNasty (Hollyoaks’ Darren Langford).
Anthony Batey steals the show as the flamboyant Mother Goose, with her multitude of bright costumes and massive singing voice.
Silly Billy (Callum Arnott) holds it all together, encouraging the audience participation and providing the laughs for all by poking fun at I’m a Celebrity and The X Factor, with a smattering of toilet humour thrown in.
With a mixture of hits old and new songs — Dead Ringer For Love, Sex Bomb and I Feel Pretty, to name a few — there was still room for some Lady Gaga, and Adele’s Make You Feel My Love, sung with emotion by Jack (Andrea Lynette-Young) and Jill (Shelley Rivers).
The many local children who are involved really make Mother Goose a show not to be missed for all the family.
* Performances run until Sunday, January 2. Call the box office for further details on 01254 685500. Tickets £10 and £8.
