THIS wasn't a trip down Memory Lane, it was 100mph express along the Motown motorway.

The iconic names from my youth were up there on the MEN stage and it didn't matter that the original lines up had changed so often that we were probably on a third generation.

Getting the audience in the mood were The Three Degrees, belting out all the old favourites including: "Take Good Care of yourself" which the three ladies appear to have done, although I couldn't help thinking they are probably old enough to be my big sister - and that's being kind.

The Drifters upped the tempo with some great classics - "Kissing in the back seat" and "Dance with Me."

We were all on a nostalgia trip by now and when the Four Tops bounced on stage in their gold suits, the night just got better.

They were slick and polished and pushed all the right buttons. "Reach Out" "Loco in Acapulco" and "Walk Away Renee".

There is only one original Top left, but the four of them were fantastic - the original boy band.

They had the audience on their feet - remember what your dad looked like dancing at weddings, multiply it by several thousand!

But nobody cared, everyone was lost in their teenage memories.

Topping the bill were The Temptations - a sight for sore eyes in orange and purple.

But they never stopped and their dance routines probably haven't changed since the 70s but could still teach JLS a thing or two.

Their classics: "My Girl," "Get Ready" and the rest of their back catalogue were sung at fever pitch and fever pace and while the they took Manchester to their hearts, it was the Four Tops who won over the audience's hearts.

A brilliant night out to make the oldies feel young again.
