AFTER dropping off my mum at a Charlie Landsborough gig at King George’s Hall, we found ourselves with a few hours to kill and hungry stomachs to fill.

Sunday nights are not the busiest in Blackburn, especially cold ones, and we were surprised even McDonald’s was closed.

So off we set in search of Chinese food. We found ourselves at Chang’s Gourmet Restaurant and were pleased to see other diners inside. Always a good sign.

We sat down and the warm radiators thawed us out. As we perused the menu sipping our crisp and refreshing Chinese beers, the buffet style banquet took our fancy at a reasonable £11.90 each.

My fiancée ordered the chicken and sweetcorn soup, accompanied by prawn crackers, a hearty portion of barbecue spare ribs followed by a main course of chicken with hot chilli and garlic sauce.

The soup arrived piping hot and the spare ribs had plenty of meat on.

I had a starter of Char Siu pork hot and sour soup, followed by a gargantuan portion of deep fried chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce and a main course of pork curry, which she made extra spicy for me as you can't beat a bit of kick.

The accompaniments of boiled rice and chow mein with bean sprouts were adequate. A few scoops of ice cream rounded off the feast.

A warning: we finished our buffet well within the two hour time slot but diners who fail to finish their food could incur an extra charge.
