A group of youths have been caught on CCTV launching fireworks at a pub and posting lit explosives through a letterbox.

On Thursday evening at around 7.10, CCTV from the Peel Park Hotel in Accrington picked up around seven teenagers, all wearing hooded tops, congregating on the car park of the Turkey Street pub.

Footage, which is just over two and a half minutes long, shows the youths lighting fireworks in the car park, throwing them at an upstairs window, before posting a lit one through the letter box then running away.

Lancashire Telegraph:

After posting the footage on social media, a spokesperson for the Peel Park Hotel said: "We just wanted to give a heads up for people in the area and also see if anybody could identify any of the culprits.

"They threw fireworks at the front of the pub, at an upstairs window and one also put a lit one through the letter box.

"If you watch the video closer towards the end just before they all run off, you can see it.

"It was shocking behaviour and very frightening. If the firework through our letterbox had caught hold of the mat on the other side the whole pub could have gone up.

"I really feel for our emergency services trying to do their jobs having to deal with mindless idiots especially with the current pandemic.

"We reported it and the police asked us to email the footage into them.

Children throw fireworks at police officers in Hyndburn

"A lady who lives further down from the pub encountered them with her family.

"I think she'd asked them to stop throwing fireworks and they threw one at her and her husband and little girl.

"It's disgusting behaviour.

"They were complete idiots and we just hope nobody innocent got hurt."

The resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "They just threw one at my family and it nearly hit my little girl.

"My husband just managed to drag her inside before it went off on my doorstep.

"We are very shook up.

Lancashire Telegraph:

"I had gone to shout at them to stop being idiots because there were children around and that is when they lit one and threw it at us.

"My daughter had just finished with a sparkler hence why we were outside.

"I'm just livid, they spoil what is a lovely area really."

At around the same time, Hyndburn neighbourhood policing team posted on their social media account, informing people in the area that a group of kids had been throwing fireworks at officers close to the Coppice.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Officers have been out in the Avenue Parade/Coppice area where we have been greeted by groups of kids who started to throw fireworks directed at police.

"If you know that your child is out and in this area, please can you consider collecting them."

Disgusting video shows police officers attacked with fireworks by group of yobs

And it didn't stop there, as elsewhere more officers were ambushed by children with explosives.

In Tunstill Square, Brierfield, police were targeted with rocket fireworks as they were waiting for the fire service to assist with a blaze that had been set in the street.

A 17-year-old has since been arrested in relation to the incident and will be dealt with in due course.

A police spokesman said: “Dedicated officers are currently out and about dealing with reports of firework anti-social behaviour in order of keeping the community safe.

“Whilst officers were awaiting for the fire service to extinguish a fire on Tunstill Square a group of individuals thought it would be appropriate to target the police with rockets.

"This will not be tolerated, and officers will be conducting enquiries to locate whose responsible."

The police have been contacted for a further statement.

Anyone with information relating to the offences above, or if anyone recognises the culprits in the CCTV footage, should contact the police on 101.
