POLICE have warned parents to keep track of where children are on Bonfire Night after they were caught throwing fireworks at them.

Hyndburn Police witnessed a group of children throwing fireworks at them in the Avenue Parade/Coppice area.

A spokesman for the police said: "Good evening, officers have been out in the Avenue Parade/coppice area where we have been greated by groups of kids who started to throw fireworks directed at police. If you know that your child is out and in this area, please can you consider collecting them."

The police have already stated in a Facebook post that in previous years there has been a growing problem of groups of youths causing anti-social behaviour with fireworks in the Hyndburn area in the lead up to and on Bonfire night.

A spokesman said: "The dangers of such behaviours are obvious both to the public and to those using the fireworks. As we have entered lockdown there are rules as when people can be out and who they can be with.

"These rules include: You are also only permitted to leave your home: education, work if you are unable to work from home, exercise, medical reasons, to escape injury or harm, to shop for essentials and provide care for vulnerable people or as a volunteer.

"No mixing of households indoors except for childcare or other support is permitted. In addition, no mixing of households outdoors except for exercising or visiting a public place with one other person is allowed.

"As per above there should be no groups congregating and the neighbourhood policing team will be out this evening to keep the communities safe from such ASB with enforcement if required."
