THE twists and turns the riders will attempt to negotiate during the second stage of this year’s Aviva Tour of Britain have been revealed.

The provisional route will see some of the world’s best professional cyclists kick off the race in Clitheroe before speeding through Barrow, Wiswell, Pendleton, Sabden and Whalley.

The riders will then zoom through Billington, Langho and Wilpshire during the first Ribble Valley section of the race before entering Salesbury, Ribchester, Longridge and Chipping.

The first section of the race will reach its climax in Bashall Eaves, Whitewell, Dunsop Bridge, Newton-in-Bowland and Slaidburn with the riders then tackling Bolton-by-Bowland and Gisburn.

Pendle’s first section will see the riders pedal from Gisburn to Bracewell and on to Barnoldswick before hitting Earby and into North Yorkshire briefly before returning to the Ribble Valley.

The riders will travel through Downham, Chatburn and back into Clitheroe before heading towards Whalley again and into Wiswell, Read and Simonstone.

The final section of the race will start in Padiham and go into Brierfield, Nelson and finally into Colne where the race will finish and the stage winner crowned.

The race will start in Castle Street in the shadow of Clitheroe’s historic castle with the riders travelling through Market Place and down the hill into York Street.

A parade loop of the town, which will take in Well Terrace, Railway View, Station Road and Parson Lane is currently being discussed by the organisers but has not been officially added to the route.

If that goes ahead the riders will turn left out of York Street but if it does not then they will go right into Waterloo Road and through to Peel Street and Queensway.

The riders will then head out of Clitheroe via Whalley Road before turning right to continue on Whalley Road into Barrow.

They will then take a right into Whiteacre Lane out of the village which crosses of the A59 before the riders turn left into Cunliffe Lane in Wiswell.

They will then join Pendleton Road which will take the riders through the country lane and into Pendleton’s Main Street where they will turn right.

At the T-junction they will take a right onto Clitheroe Road and over the Nick o’ Pendle.

Once the riders are into Sabden by one of the school’s primary schools, they will turn left into Whalley Road and then carry on into Sabden Road before merging onto Portfield Lane.

The riders will then turn left into Accrington Road, the A671, and then turn right into Accrington Road and into Whalley.

Once in the centre of the village the riders will turn left into King Street and out of the village via Whalley Bridge and into Billington via Whalley Old Road.

They will carry on the road until it merges into York Road on the outskirts of Langho where they will turn into Rishton Road when then turns into Parsonage Road which will lead the riders into the centre of the village via a right turn onto Hollowhead Lane.

The tour will then speed through Wilpshire, Clayton-le-Dale and Salesbury as the riders tackle Ribchester Road which runs through the centre of each village before they carry on over the A59 and on to Ribchester via Little Town.

Once in Ribchester the riders will turn right at the T-junction of Blackburn Road and Church Street before heading out of the village on Preston Road which then turns into Fleet Street lane and into Longridge.

The riders will travel along Blackburn Road and take a right into Dilworth Lane and then will take a left at the T-junction into King Street and then right into Berry Lane.

At the end of the road they will turn right into Inglewhite Road and then taking a right into Chipping Lane and out of Longridge.

They will then go left into Hesketh Lane into Back Lane followed by Goose Lane and into Longridge Road.

The riders will then turn right in the centre of Chipping into Talbot Street and on to Green Lane before heading out on to Chipping Road and then Longridge Road before hitting Whitewell and carrying on through on the road to Dunsop Bridge.

The riders will then take a right through the centre of the village before entering Newton-in-Bowland and carrying n the B6478 into Slaidburn.

They will take a right into Chapel Street and out of the village and then take a right into Tinklers Lane

And then onto Settle Road through to Main Street in Gisburn and through to Gisburn Road and the A59 via Mill Lane.

The riders will turn left onto the A59 and then turn right into Yarlside Lane and into Bracewell Lane which then merges into Gisburn Road which leads into Barnoldswick.

 They will turn right to continue on Skipton Road which then turns into Church Street and Walmsgate and then into Westgate on the way out of Barnoldswick.

The road then merges into Colne Road and then into Gillians Lane before they turn right into Manchester Road which then merges into Higher Lane.

They will turn left into Moor Lane just outside Park Close and then take another left into Salterforth Lane and then crossing Kelbrook Road and into Earby Road.

They will follow the road until it turns into Salterforth Road before turning left onto the A56 and then into Earby via Victoria Road.

The road then turns into Water Street which then merges into Stoney Bank Road and Collham Lane and then Bleara Road on the way out of the village.

The riders will turn right into Skipton Old Road and then turn right into Cockhill Lane and then left into Castle Road.

They will go over the A56 into Regent Avenue before going straight over the roundabout into Red Lane before it turns into Barnoldswick Road and then taking a left into Beverley Road and then left into Gisburn Road, the A682.

They will travel down the road and take a right into Pasture Lane before turning right into Barley New Road.

It will then lead into The Avenue where the riders will turn right in Barley Lane where they will take the left-hand fork to Four Lane Ends crossroads.

They will take a left into Pendle Road and into Downham through Main Street and Chatburn Road and into Chatburn.

The tour will pass into Crowtrees Brow and into Clitheroe Road which goes into Chatburn Road and into Clitheroe.

They will then go down Waterloo Road and into Peel Street and back into Queensway and Whalley Road and into Barrow again.

The riders will once again turn left into Whiteacre Lane and turn right down Old Back Lane in Wiswell and into Wiswell Shay and turn right into Accrington Road, the A671.

They will carry on down the road and into Read and Simonstone before taking a left into Barrowford Road in Padiham and up to Fence before turning right into Cookstool Lane which leads to Clitheroe Road in Brierfield.

The road leads into Railway Road where they will turn left into Glenway and continue into Colne Road before turning left to lead to Manchester Road in Nelson.

The tour will pass through the centre of the town before they turn right into Leeds Road which leads to Burnley Road.

They will keep the right side of the roundabout to continue in Burnley Road which leads into Primet Bridge in Colne.

The final 1km starts in Albert Road which leads into Church Street with the finish line located in Church Street outside Santander Bank.
