ANNA Hopkin qualified for the final of the women's 50m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games.

The Chorley swimmer touched third in her semi-final in Gold Coast in a time of 25.33 seconds behind Australia's Shauna Jack (24.63) and Canada's Taylor Ruch (24.72).

Home favourite Cate Campbell set a Games record of 23.88 in the second semi-final but Hopkin's time was enough to see her through as the seventh fastest qualifier.

The 21-year-old already has one medal from the 4x100m freestyle relay and will go in search of a second in Saturday's final which takes place at 10.43am UK time.

Hopkin is also competing in the 100m freestyle. The heats for that event get underway in the early hours of Sunday morning.
