DAVID Leniewski admitted to a tinge of disappointment after the opening weekend of the British Formula Vee Championships at Oulton Park in which he recorded 13th and 12th placed finishes.

Despite that being his highest scoring weekend to date, Burnley’s Leniewski felt he could have claimed two top-10 finishes.

“Looking back I should be really happy and if I would have been offered 13th and 12th last week I would have bitten your hand off,” said Leniewski.

“But I’m a bit disappointed as I made some small errors, given I could have had two top-10 finishes.

“I now need to focus on Brands Hatch, which is going to be a very challenging event.”

Leniewski qualified 12th and 11th for the two races last weekend and in the opener a crash brought a red flag and a re-start.

On a wet track Leniewski battled to 13th before getting off to a strong start in race two only to lose ground and recover to 12th, with only a second splitting 10th-14th.

He added: “It felt really great out there, and I was putting in some very consistent track times, I just hope I can convert this to good Championship points”, he explained afterwards.”

Leniewski now has a four-week gap between races and will spend it training and working to secure a major sponsor.

He added: “The budget for this year is very tight, and while I am trying to protect the car, anything can happen.

“A major accident could spell the end of my season, and that would be devastating for the whole team.”
