Oliver, the brother of London 2012 Olympic Games silver medallist Samantha Murray, finished an impressive ninth overall as well as partnering Zoe Gowers to win gold for Great Britain in the mixed relay event.

Now he will look to continue his exploits at the World Youth A Championships in Argentina next month.

The Harriers, meanwhile, set 14 personal bests in the final fixture of the Mid Lancs Track and Field League, at Hyndburn.

The previous weekend the club managed to seal second spot in the final UK Youth Development League Division One West fixture, at Bebington.

The Harriers were missing a number of athletes as a result of holidays.

But they displayed great spirit to finish overall runners-up to Liverpool Harriers, who are promoted to Premier Division Two.

  • The third Harrock Hill race of the year was contested by some weary but hardy Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club athletes, who were led home for the second time in the series by V50 Andrew Clough (42nd), with Jonathon Burgess (43rd) and Bill Beckett (47th) right behind.

Paul Jackson (81st) brought in the next group in front of fourth-fastest V60 David Miller (86th) with Rachael Gibson (103rd) chasing hard. Next home was Graham Schofield (124th) with Alison Fowler (146th) just ahead of Mike Coppin (159th) who, as the second-fastest V70, was Chorley’s only prize winner on the night.

Two Chorley members made the short journey to Penwortham to compete in the final Vernons (Welcome Inn) 5K. Warren Crook was the fastest V50 home in 19 minutes 41 seconds, followed by Steven Wilde as fastest V60 in 25mins 5secs.
