The race covers 47 miles and is divided into five hilly legs with each team of 10 runners competing together in pairs, starting and finishing in Bingley.

While there are brief sections on roads, the race is mainly run over moorland paths, through fields and alongside canals, across the beautiful West Yorkshire countryside.

Accrington Road Runners had five teams participating, Blackburn Harriers and Blackburn Road Runners two apiece.

Wharfedale Harriers won by an impressive 21 minutes with Blackburn Harriers A fourth and Accrington Road Runners Vets ninth overall and second in the vets standings.

One of Accrington Road Runners’ mixed teams finished third in their category.

Blackburn Road Runners’ men’s team finished 26th overall.

Blackburn Harriers ace Ben Fish, meanwhile, raced to victory in the Potteries Marathon.

Fish crossed the line in two hours 26 minutes and 14 seconds to push defending champion Ben Gamble into second.

Fish said: “I knew Ben Gamble would be going for the win too. After six miles I got a 10-seconds gap and it was only by 16 miles that I started to get away. Steep descent and heat brought on cramp in last mile, otherwise I was fine!

Meanwhile, Darwen Dashers star Joanne Nelson finished inside the top 10 at the Badger 10k Trail Run, Bamber Bridge.

She passed the post in 41mins 51secs to finish 10th overall, as the second fastest female behind Holcombe Harriers’ Carmen Byrne in eighth overall in 41mins 24secs, and as the fastest F40.
