COLNE’S Olympic cycling medallist Steven Burke is hoping to breaking the four-minute barrier for the first time in his team pursuit career when he represents Great Britain at the Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester today.
Burke won bronze in the individual pursuit in Beijing but will only be competing in the team pursuit at the event, which started yesterday and is the first of a five-part series.
Burke, who will compete with Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas and Rob Hayles, told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We want to win and it would only be the second time I’ve won a World Cup event. We’re quite confident with the form we’re in and we want to keep on improving.
“This event is really important to me because we want to get under four minutes, which is something I’ve never done before.
“I had a break for a couple of weeks but I feel motivated again now. I like winning!”
The final will be shown on BBC Interactive from 7pm tonight.
