THE Under-17’s Motor Club is gearing up for a celebration of motorsport this weekend.

The club is hosting a special driver training event at the Blackburn with Darwen M65 Services, with the fixture part of the ANWCC Junior PCA Championship.

“We’ve five young drivers doing the Auto Test on Saturday, and for several of them it will be their first driving experience,” said organiser Steve Johnson.

“The day is a celebration of all things about our sport, and is aimed at the young people who may not know how easy it is it to get involved – and hopefully inspire them.

“We are also looking to encourage young drivers to come forward and learn to drive in a safe and controlled environment.”

The autotest takes place from 11 am until 3.30pm, with free entry and parking.

“The Under-17’s Motor Club is now one of the most successful in the land and we are very proud of that,” added Johnson.

“We’ve had a fantastic response since the club was formed three years ago and although the accent is firmly on safety, it is also about fun and enjoyment.”

On Sunday, and at the same venue, a Production Car Autotest forms the centrepiece of the day which will also feature a display of rally and racing cars and club stands.

Organised by Accrington Motor Club, the club are also laying on passenger rides with the autotest competitors.

“It is a real chance for people to come along who may not be too familiar with Motorsport and an opportunity for them to find out what goes on behind the scenes.

“It is relatively cheap to get involved too, and socially this is a great event.”
