TWO days on, we are all still on a high from beating EPL side Peterborough Phantoms in the cup.

It’s something we wanted to do – and something we believed we could do – and I must admit we deserved it.

We played some of the best hockey we’ve played all season. We were really at our game on Sunday night and, while some Phantoms fans were saying they had rested a few players, they are still top opposition and I don’t think they could have any complaints about the result.

MORE TOP STORIES:

We haven’t put in a bad performance in the cup against EPL opposition so to get that scalp, and prove we were capable of it, was a big bonus. and were on top pretty much all the way through the game, winning 8-2.

Peterborough pulled a goal back but then we restored the two-goal cushion straight away, and ultimately pulled away from them, making it 7-1.

Phantoms scored a second but we were never in danger of losing the game, and wrapped it up with an eighth.

Now we have to make that result count for something and take it into the rest of the season. We have big games coming up, back-to-back against a Billingham side who are on a decent run of form, and they will be looking to get revenge against us.

We’ve just got to keep pushing on and keep our discipline and prove we are worthy of our place at the top of the table at the end of the season.

As expected, we stretched our unbeaten record this season against Manchester Minotaurs on Saturday. Although a comfortable win, it was a tough game to play in because there was no atmosphere; there was no music in between shifts, and we hadn’t gone into it with the right mentality, which isn’t like us. We were just happy to get the two points and get out of there.

On the plus side, we were pleased to hand a debut to Craig Lutkevitch, who stepped up from the Eagles and played well.

He has been training with us for a while, but you’ve got to pick the right games to introduce such players.

Another plus was welcoming back Jake Nurse after a serious eye injury.

His physical presence was a big boost to us against Phantoms in particular, and having him back will only help us for the rest of the season.

It was a big relief for him to play because I think he has been a little bit uncertain about whether he was going to return. There was the worry that if he gets another knock it could cause him permanent damage, but he has recovered and his confidence will return now he is back into the action.
