ACCRINGTON Stanley chief executive Rob Heys admits the club are unlikely to pay any fees for players this summer.
It follows Stanley's decision not to pursue Shrewsbury's Darran Kempson, as the Shropshire side are seeking a fee for the combative defender.
Heys revealed that the Reds had made an enquiry for Kempson, who spent two months on loan at the Fraser Eagle Stadium last season.
But he said: "Shrewsbury are looking for a fee, but with the amount of free agent players around at the moment, we are not looking to pay any fee for players.
"Of course, everything is decided on its own merit.
"But at this stage of the season, with so many clubs releasing about eight to 10 players, it makes more sense to look at players who may come here without us having to pay a fee."
