Chorley Ladies 1

Leicester City Women 5

CHORLEY Ladies crashed out of the League Cup after losing to higher league opposition Leicester City at Euxton.

The home side started brightly and were rewarded when Lisa Topping made a superb run into the box only to be halted unfairly and a penalty was given which Laura Walker confidently converted.

However, the lead didn’t last long. An over hit pass back was awkward for Meghan Pope to control and eventually the ball landed to a blue shirt who stroked the ball into an empty net.

Leicester took the lead when the visiting striker volleyed superbly past Pope.

And Leicester grabbed a third goal to lead 3-1 at the break.

After a tight second half, Leicester grabbed a fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining.

It was harsh on Chorley but it was another great finish. The final goal of the game had a fortune of luck to it as Pope managed to pull off a wonderful save at the first attempt before the ball landed for a Leicester player to tap in the rebound to make it 5-1 to the visitors.

The score line flattered the visitors as Chorley, who will now go into the plate competition, deserved more from the game.

Chorley Ladies: Meghan Pope, Kim Sykes, Janet Mitchell, Kez Nickson, Ruth Harrison, Lisa Topping, Laura Walker, Kathy Bonner, Jen King, Scarlett Smith, Rachel Wood.
