BURNLEY Gymnastics Club was once again in the medals after attending the Milano Invitational 4-piece competition organised by City of Preston Gymnastics Club.

Also competing at the competition were gymnasts from Bolton, South Manchester and Liverpool Gymnastics Clubs.

Star of the weekend was the incredible Lyra Stretch who put in a near faultless all round display. Lyra finished first on beam, second on floor, first on vault, first on bars to claim first position and gold overall. Lyra also got a special award for bars routine.

Lana Stacey was also in fine form in her age and category finishing third on bars, second on beam, second on floor and third overall to keep the medals following. Lana also got the artistry award for floor and received a special award for her floor routine.

Isobel McEwan followed up some great performances on day one with third on vault, first on bars, first on floor to finish third overall. Isobel also received a distinction for her bars performance.

Libby Hartley picked up a couple of medals in her category - placing second on bars, first on floor and placed joint sixth overall. Tegan Cole in the same category took home a bronze on beam and joint sixth overall. Mia Blythe followed the medal journey finishing third on bars, eventually placing eighth overall.

On day two of the competition Jessica Park did well on all pieces but just missed on a medal placing fourth on vault and fifth overall in a highly competitive category. Grace Root also performed solidly but just missed out on a medal placing fourth on vault and bars and eighth overall. The unlucky streak continued with Lola Dugdale who also did really well but just missed out on a medal placing fourth on bars. Lola was seventh overall.

Shannon Cairns put in her best competitive performance to date taking home first place on beam and on vault. Shannon finished second overall and got the artistry award for her floor routine. In the same category, Madison Hull placed second on vault and second on bars with two near perfect displays. Madison placed fifth overall. The final medal of the day belonged to Rhianna Doogan who placed third on bars and just missed on a medal placing fourth on floor and vault and placed sixth overall.

Head Coach Kim Sharples said, “The girls really delivered some great performances over the weekend and the development and progress they are making has been exceptional.

“There is still further room for improvement but we are now competing with the so called Elite Gyms which is really pleasing for the club and the hard work the gymnasts and coaches are putting in to sessions. “
