HURST Green put their poor league form to one side as they produced a shock result in the first round of the President’s Cup.

The Ribble Valley side, one place off the bottom in Division One, played host to league leaders Burscough Richmond who have lost just once all season.

But Green threw the form guide out of the window as Sam Whittaker’s early strike was enough to secure a memorable 1-0 victory.

Haslingden St Mary’s are also in the hat for the second round after an impressive 4-0 win at Ladybridge.

A Matthew Martindale goal gave the Saints a slender 1-0 lead at the break but second half goals from David Snape, Sean Pearson and Nick Clements sealed the win.

In the league, Brad Carsley produced a goal-scoring masterclass as she scored all five goals in Longridge Town’s 5-1 win over Crookland Casuals.

Carsley scored twice in the first period, completed his hat-trick on the hour mark then added two more, the fifth from the penalty spot.

Town are one of three teams on 30 points, six behind leaders Fulwood Amateurs.

Burnley United remain in big trouble as they lost 5-2 at home to Hesketh Bank - an 11th defeat in 14 games.

Oliver Wood and Louis Jordan put United 2-0 up but Hesketh stormed back to win.

In Division One, Mill Hill St Peters picked up an impressive point at promotion chasing Wyre Villa.

Luke Rollins gave the home side an eighth minute lead but Liam Hoyle’s 36th minute reply earned a share of the spoils for the Blackburn side.

In Division One Reserves, bottom of the table Haslingden St Marys picked up their first win of the season and they did it in style after beating fellow strugglers Leyland United 5-1.

David Richmond fired the Saints ahead in the 12th minute, a lead that was doubled by Josh Parker 10 minutes before half time.

Richmond grabbed a second in the 65th minute and Ryan Siddall and Keith Wilkinson completed the scoring.

Hurst Green Reserves threw away a three goal lead as they were held 3-3 at Tempest United Reserves.

Jake Craven, Aaron Davis and Liam Dewhurst gave the Ribble Valley side a commanding 3-0 lead at the break but Tempest stormed back and grabbed a last minute equaliser threw Luke Skelly.
