IF you want to impress anyone in the sport of triathlon then there are probably none better than the Brownlee brothers - and that is exactly what Blythe Fourie did.

The 15-year-old St Augustine’s student competed in the Brownlee Triathlon at Harewood Hall in Leeds and certainly made an impression with Olympic champion Alistair and Jonny who won bronze at London 2012.

Competing in the 15 to 18-years-old category, Blythe, who is a member of Pioneer 79 Swimming Club, won the Elite Female Youth category after clocking an impressive combined time of 48mins 57secs. Blythe, who has previously been crowned English Schools Fell champion, completed the 400m swim in 6mins 9secs, climbing out of the water as third placed female and just 15 seconds behind the leading girls.

After the swim, it was up a grassy slope to towards the transition area followed by another long run up steep hill to the specified ‘mount’ line.

By the time Blythe had completed the 12km bike ride, she was leading the female race and proceeded to run an extremely strong stage, (3.5km) in 12mins 27secs.

Blythe’s winning Elite Female Youth time of 48mins 57secs was also good enough to beat all but 12 teenage boys, meaning she beat all the men and all the women taking part.

And her transition times were also the second quickest of the day.

Later, the Brownlee Brothers were on hand to sign autograph.

Blythe’s background is in running having won the English Schools Fell champs and was also a very successful national cross country runner.

Her first triathlon was two years ago at Eton Dorney, Windsor and she continued to carry on and was talented spotted by Rodger Wilkins of Racepace Triathlon coaching.
