NEW Rimington boss Mark Wilson enjoyed the perfect start, the champions crushing Stacksteads St Josephs 5-0 on the opening day.

Wilson has a hard act to follow after long-serving manager Terry Braithwaite relinquished the managerial duties last season after a trophy-laden 15 years at Jubilee Field.

But the ex-Grindleton and Barnoldswick chief saw his side produce a five-star show ahead of tonight’s First Division clash against Whinney Hill, who were thrashed 4-1 at home by Mill Hill on the opening day.

Burnley Belvedere were also in the winning groove, crushing AFC Darwen 4-0, while Burnley Athletic edged past Langho 2-1 at Bank Hall.

There are two other First Division fixtures due to be played tonight with Enfield hosting Langho and Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s locking horns with Darwen.

Rishton were the big winners in the Second Division, cruising to a 5-2 victory over Read United.

Rishton are back in action this evening when they tackle Blackburn United, who play their first game at this level following their elevation from the Blackburn Combination.

Prairie United were also winners on the opening day, edging out Edisford Bridge 2-1.

But there were no goals in the games between Newchurch and Rosegrove Railway and Peel Park and Colne United.
