BURNLEY Rugby Club’s annual summer of touch rugby has come to an end and it has been hailed another huge success.

Dads and lads, full families, rugby veterans and newcomers took part in the 10-week fun event held to encourage people to either take up the sport or get fit during the close season.

Head coach Simon Finnan once again oversaw matters and he was delighted to see so many playing the game.

“From young to old, boys and girls it showed the sport is open to all and played in a safe environment, enabling dads to be on same pitch as their lads - Michael and Joshua Uren, full families - Paddy and Fran Murphy with children Dom and Liam, plus parents with daughters - Dom Leck with Sophie, Jason Bell and his girls Polly and Willow, and finally Dom Bythell and youngsters Elona and Liam all competing on the same pitch.

“It was wonderful to see.

“The numbers of girls taking part has also been a big positive with Naomi Hartley, Ayshea Whittaker, Orlagh Tracy, Sally Ralphson, Tiegan Etherington and Camilla Murray, who all gave it a go.”

Finnan thanked Burnley Borough Council GSA for allowing the club to use Queen’s Park to hold the midweek tag rugby sessions.

The club is hoping to continue to hold tag rugby sessions throughout the winter months.
