PUPILS from across Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley put their athletic abilities to the test at a Quad kids’ competition Held at at Hyndburn Athletics Club, the competition included four track and field events; the long jump, vortex howler throw, 40m sprint and 200m run.

Young athletes competed in each event with their scores added together and put towards their team’s total to find out an overall winner.

Ribble Valley schools were the first to compete in the morning session with 14 schools battling to become borough champions.

And it was St Leonards, Langho who took top spot ahead of Waddington & West Bradford in second and Salesbury in third place.

The Hyndburn event took place in the afternoon slot, this time 10 schools competed for the top school.

St Charles took the honours with 1277 points, ahead of Benjamin Hargreaves (1272) and St Bartholomew’s (1267).

“The ability and passion shown by the young competitors were of a very high standard and the results showed that,” said school games organiser Gareth Charlesworth.

“The event was a huge success with help from Hyndburn Athletics Club. We couldn’t run these types of events without the help of the athletics club.

“Thanks also to St Christopher’s who provided young leaders who did all the scoring on each event.”
