ON only his second visit to St Andrews Owen Jackson from Preston stormed to victory in this year’s Classic final defeating Kendal’s Ian Nicholson 21-12.

The final was shaping up to be a close game as the early lead changed hand several times before the game the game was level at 9-9, Jackson then moved 14-9 ahead and from then on only allowed his opponent three more chalks before closing out the final with a six break to secure a well earned victory after a day of excellent bowling.

In the first semi final, Jackson defeated Simon Coupe 21-18 in a game that was close all the way.

At one stage Coupe led 18-16 but Jackson secured the last three ends to run out a winner.

The second semi final saw Nicholson race into a 9-2 lead only for Ditchfield to claw his way back and level at 14-14 after which Nicholson pushed on for a well deserved 21-15 win.

The competition, held at the Burnley club, is one of the most popular in the North West.

St Andrews Bowling Club will also play host to the J&J Isherwood sponsored North Lancs and Fylde Senior Merit competition on Sunday with games starting at 10.30am and on Sunday, July 12, the North Lancs and Fylde Juniors will take on their counterparts from Warwick & Worcester in a junior county match.

All spectators are welcome at both events.
