FOR some of the rugby players at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, this is the time of year to put the boots away and turn their attention to summer sports.

But for Year 10 pupil Sam Chadwick however, it is time to continue his rugby training as he has been selected for the North of England U15 sDevelopment squad.

Following the recent U15s 12-a-side Academy Festival when he played for Sale Sharks he has been selected for the two day U15 North Development Camp that will take place in Leeds this week and talented Sam is hoping to progress with the squad.

Meanwhile, more QEGS pupils have been in action.

While all the sport on Saturday was washed out by the weather, there was some sport played during the week.

The Under 13s cricket team managed to beat Merchant Taylors’, Crosby by 40 runs. QEGS posted 110 for 4, (Ben Beaumont 30, Qasim Shah 33) and in reply Merchants could only manage 70 for 7 off their allotted overs.

The weather did not disrupt the Senior House Swimming Gala, which turned out to be a close run affair.

Howard and Raleigh shared the spoils in second place, with 47 points each, while Drake took the honours with 50 points.

Two of the school’s football teams were involved in Blackburn with Darwen Cup finals, but lost at the final hurdle.

The U13s played Darwen Academy and lost 3-1. The U15s faced Our Lady’s & St John and at the end of normal time the score was 1-1. Extra-time was again closely contested, but they lost 3-2 at the final whistle. Both teams deserve congratulations for reaching the final.
