TWO Blessed Trinity pupils have been showing off their martial skills.

Jack Cunliffe is proving to be a bit handy in taekwondo while Alyssa Bristow recently won her first kick boxing bout.

Jack is starting to build up his belt and trophy collection after the 12-year-old recently came second in the TSX Sparring Championships at Halifax.

He trains at Todmorden High School under Keith Raistrick 5th Dan and has reached blue belt level.

“I went to try out taekwondo two years ago as I thought I would give it a go and I enjoy it,” said Jack.

“I want to go all the way to a black belt and then a 5th Dan although I know it will require a lot of dedication.”

Alyssa is fighting fit after her first success.

The year Year Seven student has been a member of Dragons Kickboxing Club on Accrington Road for around 18 months after going with her cousin to try it out.

“I have been going five times a week since then and I had my first fight recently at Mount Carmel in Accrington,” said Alyssa. “I was really nervous before it but they stopped it before the end of the second round so I was pleased to win.

“I enjoy kickboxing because it is fun and something you don’t normally do.”
