A SQUAD of 19 Burnley Bobcats swimmers took part in the Level 1 Stockport Metro April Qualification Window Meet at the Leisure Grand Central pool, Stockport.

The first event was the 800m freestyle on the Friday evening with Bobcats Team Girls Captain, Katie Rennolds (16), Grace Pickles (15) and Saffron Fenton (13) all competing. All girls swam exceptionally we;;. achieving personal best times with Katie winning the 17 year old age group category and Grace finishing in 2nd place in the 16 year old category. Grace continued in good form by winning the 400m freestyle race and good personal bests and places in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events.

The weekend began with the Boys 200m Individual Event which was swam by Thomas Mackay (15), Harry Pilkington (14), Joshua Lambert (15) and Elliot Norman (14). All the boys swam exceptional with Josh claiming 2nd place in his 16 year old age group category and Elliot finishing in 3rd place and invited to take part in the Medley Skins, a knockout event swum over 50m with strokes being drawn randomly. Elliot did exceptionally well but was unlucky to be eliminated in the 3rd round but was awarded a cash prize.

Katie Rennolds was again on form in all her events. In the 100m butterfly she achieved 1st position in her heat to qualify her for the final where she was just pipped to the post and achieved second place. Katie produced some excellent swims over the two days, achieving more finals and swept the board in the freestyle events by winning the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m, Katie came second in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m backstroke events to be finally crowned top 17 year old girl over the two day event to add to her list of achievements.

Lily-Grace Duckworth , 11, followed in Katie’s footsteps to win many events in the 12 year old category winning the 50m butterfly; 200m IM; 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events; 100m and 200m backstroke events. Lily was placed in 2nd place in the 400m freestyle and 4th in the 100m breaststroke.

Lily had a finel gala and qualified for the final of the 100m freestyle and was the youngest competitor in this event to finish in fourth place - an excellent result as all her competitors were aged 14 years. L She was awarded Top Girl in the 12 year old age category after a fantastic weekend.
