EASTER Sunday saw a handful of fixtures played in the Blackburn Sunday Football League, the game of the day was the Division One clash between Intack and Clifton.

Intack started brighlty and were unlucky not to be in front inside 20 minutes as two great saves from the Clifton keeper keeping his team in the game.

Clifton did put some pressure on the Intack defence as the first half came to a close but could not force a break through.

Clifton showed more of a attacking threat in the second half but both defences were in top form as the game ended 0-0.

Station Hotel clinched promotion back to Division One at the first time of asking as they convincingly beat Baggies Wine Bar, while JQ Plumbing brought the curtain down on their season with a goalless draw with Hare & Hounds.

Only two games were played in Division Three as Oswaldtwistle Immanuel finished their campaign as division runners-up with a hard fought 1-0 victory over a much improved Sunnybank team, while Prince of Wales ended their campaign with a thrilling 5-4 win over Hyndburn Youth.

This weekend saw the league working with the Blackburn Referees Association in developing the progress of younger referees in the area as they work towards putting what they have learned in their training. This involved them doing assistant referee duties as part of their ongoing work as they prepare to progress their career in the game.

By taking these games it has given these young referees the chance to demonstrate in real game situations all they have learned in their weekly training classes, also by working with more senior officials they can improve their development as referees.

The league received very positive feedback from all clubs that had these assistants, and the referees were full of praise for the hard work and dedication they showed. The Young referees who took part were; W Cross, K Jaffer, L Grimshaw, R Counsell, Z Gulma, B Gulma, M Cooper and M Sheth.

Bill Maynard, fixture and results secretary said: "Thanks to all clubs who co-operated in getting games played through the Easter period, also our thanks to clubs who allowed young referees to do assistant duties as part of their ongoing training it proved a real success.

"The league would like to pass on its thanks to these young officials for a job well done."
