KAI Moreland is hoping to follow in the footsteps of cousin Cole Hayman and sign for his county.

Fast bowler Hayman played in the Lancashire League for Burnley before being snapped up by Lancashire last year.

Now batsman Kai, who is in Year Seven at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic College, wants to emulate his big cousin.

“I play for Burnley Cricket Club at Under 13s and Under 15 level and also Lancashire Under 12s,” said Kai.

“While Cole is a bowler, I am a batsman and I once hit 50 in a district game in 68 balls.

“I went for trials at Lancashire around August last year and the coaches said I had the best shot of the trials as I came up against a fast paced bowler and hit it into mid-off for a four.

“It felt amazing when I found out I had been successful at the Lancashire trials.

“My dream now is to keep climbing up the ranks at Lancashire and play in the first team and follow in Cole’s footsteps.”

Hayman became the latest Burnley cricketer to get a shot at county cricket. He follows in the footsteps of Michael Brown, his brother David, Jon Clare, Vishal Tripathi, Jon Harvey and England superstar James Anderson.
