BRETT Windle is through to the semi finals of the North West round of the England Boxing (ABA’s) Youth Championship following another fine display of ring craft to defeat the durable Thomas Munday in Manchester.

Boxing for the first time over three, three minute rounds, the 16-year-old Sandygate ABC fighter proved to be just too good for his Macclesfield ABC opponent.

Windle, the reigning North West champion, started strongly, countering well and switching target areas with every attack.

In the second round, Windle, a student at Burnley College, began to dominate proceedings and then upped the pressure in the final - catching Munday with a fine right hook to the body to head combination which forced the Macclesfield fighter to hold on for the remainder of the round.

It was to no-one’s surprise when the verdict was announced in favour unanimously towards the Burnley boxer Windle.

The busy Burnley club were also in action at Grange-Over-Sands in the Kendal ABC show, Bram Richmond 11 dominated all three rounds in a Skills Bout against Dean Farish from Carlisle Villa ABC, showing how well the Burnley RUFC starlet has taken to a different sport.

Rio Lynch, 11, faced local rival Kai Morley from Clayton ABC and kept his unbeaten record intact following another good display of boxing.

Lewis Stansfield, 11, narrowly lost out on a split decision against Iain Carrigan (Currock House ABC), as did senior Connor Barrow against Joe.Smith (Carlisle Villa ABC).

Competing at Walkden, Manchester Reiko Rickwood, 12, beat Blackpool’s Jake Smith (Sharpstyle ABC) in a corker of a contest.
