BOYS from Alder Grange Community and Technology School played valiantly at the Year 8 North West Rugby Emerging School Competition at Blackburn Rugby Club.
The boys finished fifth overall out of 22 schools from across Lancashire.
Vanessa Holland, Curriculum Leader (Physical Education), said: “Many of the boys were new to the sport and will look to join Rossendale rugby union club as they enjoyed the event so much.”
And the Year seven team from the Rawtenstall school reached the third place play-offs at the Emerging Schools Tournament The team finished with one win, one draw and one loss in the preliminary group stages, which meant further games in the third place play-off pool. This saw the team beat local rivals Unity and draw with Park High School.
“This was an excellent performance from all squad in their first tournament,” added Holland. “All the boys should take credit for how they conducted themselves on the day. Special mention to Dom Coyne and Jack Moynihan for sterling efforts in the front five.”
