Lewis Travis is yet to feature in a Rovers matchday squad since his red card in the win at Portsmouth on February 13.

But boss Tony Mowbray admits the midfielder is a player who continues to impress him after some strong showings for the Under-23s.

The 20-year-old has been the standout performer for Damien Johnson’s table-topping youngsters, playing nine times for the senior side so far this season.

He has been back with the Academy side after serving the suspension after his first red card of his career, helping them move seven points clear at the top of Premier League 2 Division Two having started each of their last three matches.

Of his exclusion from the matchday, Mowbray said: “Lewis for the last few months has been a player that we have considered for first-team selection.

“He is one of a few Under-23s players who has been excelling this season.

“I think it’s quite exciting that the under belly of this club is full of young talented Under-23s players.

“When you have a group who have achieved one defeat in 27 games it’s very difficult to bring a young player in to this high pressure situation and leave out one of the lads who has been working hard so hard for the last six months.

“Lewis is very much on our radar, as are a number of the Under-23s players who are doing exceptionally well this season

“At this moment we know the players to trust and who can get the job done for us and we’ll keep going down that road.

“But if the opportunity comes through injury or whatever it is then I’m more than confident that Lewis can help this team win games.”
