TONY Mowbray admits Rovers’ January transfer dealings are ‘mainly done’ ahead of tomorrow night’s deadline.

Rovers have so far brought in Adam Armstrong and Jack Payne on loan, signed Amari’i Bell from Fleetwood Town and turned Paul Downing’s loan switch from MK Dons permanent.

Further moves before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline aren’t being ruled out by the Rovers, but with Corry Evans, Darragh Lenihan, Marcus Antonsson and Ben Gladwin nearing comebacks from injury, the Ewood chief doesn’t anticipate too many more dealings.

He said: “I think we have mainly done our business.

“We tried to do them early. We were very conscious of where we needed to strengthen and what we needed to bring in and the evidence of that came with (Charlie) Mulgrew’s injury and Amari’i Bell showing why he was brought to the club.

“In other areas we’ve tried to strengthen, Antonsson’s injury highlighted the need for a goalscoring wide player and we’ve been playing

Dominic (Samuel) out there to have an extra striker on the pitch and I think Armstrong can play as that extra striker.

“But when Antonsson comes back, Samuel, (Bradley) Dack and (Danny) Graham are all fit then we should have plenty of options and decide on any given day who’s going to get the job done for us.”

Bell impressed on his Rovers debut when replacing Mulgrew 15 minutes into Rovers’ draw with Northampton Town on Saturday.

The full-back, signed for around £300,000, has been a long-term target for Mowbray who revealed Rovers were quoted a seven figure fee for the 23-year-old last summer.

But, with Bell in the final six months of his Fleetwood contract, Rovers landed their man and Mowbray was delighted to get the deal over the line.

“That’s why we were hungry to get that deal done,” Mowbray added.

“It did drag on an extra week but as we’ve said publicly it wasn’t the player’s issue that was holding that deal up, the boy was desperate to come.

“I just see a really good player and have for a few years.

“I wasn’t sure we’d be able to get him. We’ve asked a few times while I’ve been here.

“We asked in the last window and the price was always over £1million.

“We’ve managed to get him at a price which is really good for this football club, we’ve got a really talented footballer.

“We have to dig in to his personality and make him a player who can become a top player and that’s what we’ll try and do and reap the benefits along the way.

“Hopefully we can have the same ambitions as him. If he wants to play in the Premier League then we want to take this club back to the Premier League and together hopefully we can try and achieve that.”

Armstrong, meanwhile, has made appearance off the bench in each of Rovers’ last three games, while Payne has been introduced on the hour mark in each of the two outings.

Both will be pushing for a starting spot against Walsall tonight, but Mowbray admits they may have to be patient.

“They have settled in well,” he said of the loan pair.

“It’s just about getting used to the demands of training, what’s expected when the ball is in certain areas and that’s why you generally don’t throw them straight in and they have a week or two to adapt to the demands of the team. They’re getting there.

“It might be different from their last clubs but they’re good young guys, they have a desire to improve, work hard and get better and hopefully they’ll play their part in future success for us.”
