SHREWSBURY Town goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been handed a three match ban after he threw objects at Blackburn Rovers fans during the League One clash at Ewood Park earlier this month.

The 20-year-old was charged, and subsequently found guilty, of improper conduct by the Football Association after he reacted to items being thrown onto the pitch from the Blackburn End after Charlie Mulgrew scored from the spot to put Rovers 3-1 ahead on January 13.

The Manchester United loanee then threw objects back into the crowd as the Rovers players celebrated the goal.

An FA spokesperson said: “Dean Henderson will be banned for Shrewsbury Town’s next three matches. He denied an improper conduct charge which related to the Blackburn Rovers game.

“The charge was proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission. He was also fined £2,000.“

The Shropshire Star reported that Shrewsbury were informed of Henderson’s suspension on Thursday and will consider an appeal once they have received the FA’s written reasons on Monday.

Henderson, who has missed just two league games all season, cannot play in tomorrow’s League One trip at Portsmouth, with Craig MacGillivray set to deputise. The on-loan Manchester United keeper will also miss the away game at Bristol Rovers and home fixture with Plymouth.

A statement posted by Shrewsbury Town read: “Shrewsbury Town are aware of the FA charges brought against Dean Henderson. With an important game at Portsmouth we will not be commentating on this until after the game.”

It is understood that Rovers will not face any action from the FA following the incident.
