TONY Mowbray admits he has had to sacrifice some of his footballing philosophies to get Rovers up and running in League One.

But over time he hopes Rovers can become more free-flowing in their style should confidence remains as high as it is after four successive league victories.

Rovers have gone back to basics somewhat after starting the season with back-to-back defeats, and responded with 12 points from their next four games. They host AFC Wimbledon tomorrow (3pm) looking for a fifth consecutive league win for the first time since November 2000.

But Mowbray is still looking for his side to find their own identity.

“What is important for this club in this league is to win football matches and find a way to do it,” the Rovers boss said.

“At times it’s not how I would like to do it, but after the first two games when we had over 60 per cent possession in those two games, I had to do a lot of thinking and try and come up with a way that was going to win matches, get some principles behind us and get a team that could go and win some games and build the confidence and see a more expansive and free-flowing team later in the year if confidence is really high.

“You win games by keeping clean sheets, that has never changed. You can win games by scoring lots of goals, and in between is open for discussion.

“Every team tries to create its own identity and I’m sure as we go along we will create an identity, one that is first and foremost successful.

“At this moment in time it’s about putting a team on the pitch to win matches.”

With wins at Rochdale and Scunthorpe United within the last week, Rovers return to Ewood Park looking to continue their impressive run of form.

Rovers beat MK Dons 4-1 in their last home match, but were booed off after a 3-1 defeat to Doncaster in their other league game at Ewood

And Mowbray added: “I have been a manager since 2004 and been through everything.

“I sat and listened to the crowd questioning the team against Doncaster, that is only a few weeks ago.

“We have to stay professional, work hard, prepare professionally and try and pick a team and tactics that can cause the opposition problems.

“We will keep going and hope we have the quality, work ethic and togetherness that can get over the next hurdle and keep going. We have to make sure the desire, effort and organisation to play forward, run, close down, is there and hopefully give them enough problems to get another three points.”
