NEW Rovers signing Harry Chapman believes Tony Mowbray’s five-point plan can lead to a successful season for both himself and the club.

The teenage winger completed his season-long loan switch to Ewood Park from Middlesbrough on Friday and will be in the squad for the opening League One clash of the season against Southend United.

And the 19-year-old, a member of England’s recent Under-20 World Cup winning squad although he didn’t feature for the Young Lions, believes Mowbray’s methods can yield success.

“He has five key points – we press the ball when we lose it high, we counter-attack, we stop counter-attacks, we control the game and we keep the ball on the floor – which is all what I enjoy football-wise, so it was good to hear,” said Chapman who was in the Boro academy when Mowbray was first team boss on Teesside.

“When I was in the academy at Middlesbrough he was obviously there and I’ve talked to the lads who are still there and they’ve all persuaded me, saying he’s really good, he’ll get the best out of you and that’s what I need.”

Chapman, who has been handed the number eight shirt at Ewood, has had two previous loan spells in League One, winning promotion in each.

He played 14 times for last year’s champions Sheffield United, scoring four goals, in a spell that was disrupted by a long-term injury.

Chapman also spent time on loan with Barnsley in 2015/16 helping the Tykes to achieve promotion via the play-offs as well as lifting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

And he is confident he will be in a side fighting for promotion again this term.

“It’s a massive club,” Chapman told Rovers’ official website.

“They shouldn’t be in this league, they need to get back to where they belong, up the top, and I’m here to help out and I can’t wait to get started.

“It would be unbelievable if I can do three out of three and with the squad we’ve got here I don’t see why we can’t.”

Chapman will compete for a wide midfield berth with the likes of Elliott Bennett, Liam Feeney and Craig Conway although the latter is currently out injured.
